The conning tower looks fantastic in its natural environment, the waves connect seamlessly it really is a great job.

Cheers Simon

Thanks! What's interesting is how creative you can get with the waves. I swear all water scenes are different as the maker always sculpts waves in there own taste with how they think water moves. When I researched how to sculpt waves, a lot of people mentioned following wave photos but some of the best reference came from what others had sculpted this just being creative.

Yeah man this is looking great. The water is on point. I guess it can be easy to go too blue but this looks like real depth. Nice one.

Ha! This is the blending factor of the waves from what I'm learning. I did have area's that came out way too blue but that's a good thing because you're meant to blend in the waves.

One item I'm learning about wave painting, is it's a combo of sculpting and blending at once. Because your using an acrylic medium the same time are painting, it basically means glazing but with super thick paint. I would recommend everyone attempt sculpting waves though as its a good experience for waves.

This is going to look the bees knees.
Love the sea effect.

Thanks!

The crazy thing is this is just the beginning steps as the true magic really starts to happen when the waves start to get the sculpting-blend medium. I'm never used a acrylic medium this thick with paint to do a wet on wet blend then glaze after to finish it. I would highly recommend experiencing it though.

So a quick mini update, the first figure of this diorama to be started is the specialist machineman. Shown in the photos he has been updated since with all of the basic sketching color with inks but this week hopefully he will get finished. The problem is the wave portion of the diorama is just addicting to work on because the effect is so cool.

I did do some detail painting on the conning tower as it has a bunch of items that are wood I'm painting.

The sculpting /blending thing makes total sense. A few things to juggle and keep in mind. But yeah it looks like great fun working on a large volume like that. One day I'll have the opportunity with something no doubt!

What's interesting about thinking about taking on a project like this is the amount of motivation needed. Because I'm working on so many things at once in the build, it does get overwhelming but breaking it up between the two other projects has helped.

Hi Ross

Goodness you have lots going on around the bench , nice work on the sea so far and the your motivation is there definitely , you quite rightly say break between projects helps

Looking forward to seeing more on this ......and the other projects when possible

Have FUN @ the bench

Those waves are looking really good, this is going to be awesome. I'm off to do some ripples on a shellhole, a similar kind of thing but on a much smaller scale.

Modelling water is an interesting challenge and if done well, it really lifts a diorama to another level. I think you are going to achieve that with this one.

The figure line-up looks great. You mentioned painting the tower after installation, whereas I would expect it to be done before the install, a different approach. Either way, this is progressing nicely.
