This is the only other figure I have done outside of 1/35th in military modeling. I did this many years ago and thought I would post this. Painted with Grumbacher oils and MM enamels at the time.

I always thought these were terrific figures. Too bad Verlinden scraped the molds when closing and now these are literally 3-4 times the cost for the remaining surviving inventory.

I think I paid $39. for this back in the day. About 20 years ago.

Cheers

Some of the range were a little strange but they were often poorly cast with almost as much waste resin in the box to deal with as figure. I always check the box contents before buying any verlinden pieces. The difference in casting quality can be staggering from box to box.

Nice work on this by the way

Really nice paint job on the figure.

I agree with Keith's comments; some Verlinden figs and busts were very good and stand the test of time whereas some were truly dire; especially those which had the 'grinning chimp' toothy faces and seemed to be almost a 'trademark' of one sculptor who worked on their range.

Hi Keith

Good to see something from your cabinets and a Verlinden as well ...despite the time still looks really good

Hope we see more from you

Happy benchtime

I have to agree with this. Some manufacturers produce guaranteed quality for sculpting and casting, some produce guaranteed turkeys. Verlinden seemed to cover all bases, a lot of rubbish and the occasional gem. One of my favourite pieces is an Artillery officer bust, a lovely sculpt.

This drummer is another nice piece and beautifully painted.

I knew that sculptor. He's no longer with us. His detail work was good but it didn't run to faces. I agree with the general consensus that FV stuff was extremely variable in its quality, but he was prolific at a time when there wasn't so much about.

Always nice to see a Verlinden on PF and what a good result you got jumping up from 1/35 to 120mm (if I am correct) and using oils as well, I agree with the guys that Verlinden produced some weird looking pieces and some timeless sought after pieces and s the owner of about 20 verlindens I must say that I never really was unlucky enough to touch for a poorly cast item, in fact since getting back into the hobby after a 30 year break and buying some of the new stuff from other companies I have often thought to myself this is s### and if Verlinden were able to produce clean, crisp detailed items 30 -40 years ago how come things haven't moved on and why are some castings rough and cost 2 or 3 times as much, however destroying the molds was most certainly a sin.

That's a fine job and as others have said you often as not had to take your chances with Verlinden.
I gave up on them when I got the mounted 120 mm Hun. Decided to pair him up with the Hun foot figure marketed at 120mm but when I got it was barely 90mm, must've shrunk in the post ;)
Regardless of the weaknesses in the range a very decent outcome can be achieved as you've shown.
Cheers
