    Saxon Bust WIP Photos

Well I'm in awe of that face! Superb work there. The fleshtones are wonderful. His beard looks a little frosty. Is that your intent? Please share more of your work! Cheers Andy

    Painting faces the Cohen way

Thanks Gray I'm more a fan of the subtle shading (Canadian, eh!), but I'm always keen to try something out. Your message describes things pretty well, but I'm not sure what you mean by painting from dark to light in one fell swoop. Do you mean the base coat is dark, then progressively lighter...

    Question about painting a busby/bearskin

Thanks guys. Payne's Grey is a great idea! I have that too. I'll try using some Payne's with Titanium White on the bonnet as it is now. It dried flatter than I would have liked (typical cursed oil paint, gloss when you don't want it, matt when you want satin/gloss). I wonder if the bonnets...

    Painting faces the Cohen way

Thanks guys. I have the article from Vallejo, both digital and print version from HM a few years back. And I've seen Jaume's method. I'm curious about what Doug C does differently. And you're probably thinking of the big Vallejo painting article from HM, Pete. And yes it's on the Colorado...

    Figure Shopping in Buffalo, NY?

I'll tell my wife that John and Guy!! :p The only problem is all those bills rolling in. I do need the heat and light to work on figures, and I suppose food is necessary too. The dog certainly thinks so! There's a shop here in town selling off old Ral Partha stuff. Man, there are some cool...

    Painting faces the Cohen way

Hi I got the five recommended Vallejo colors to try out Doug Cohen's face painting method. Of course I don't have the HM article. Does anyone here have a rundown on the method? Thanks, Andy

    Question about painting a busby/bearskin

Hi I've almost finished my officer of the Dutch Guard (Napoleonic). I've seen lots of busbies on the guard in Ottawa and London. Now these tend to be very black (blacker than black to use the Spinal Tap term), with a lot of sheen to the fur. Any suggestions on replicating this in miniature? I...

    Figure Shopping in Buffalo, NY?

Hi Niagara Hobbies is useless for figures beyond DML, Tamiya etc. 1/35 scale. They have other stuff for supplies, but nothing special. The book section has loads of Osprey, but you'd think history began in 1850. There's NOTHING on older stuff except for some coverage of old steam engines...

Sculpting & Painting a Prussian Jager

Forms individual buttons. Paints then sculpts and attaches fingers. All without making a complete mess I'm sure. Clearly lazy, lazy, lazy... ;)  Great SBS and it's wonderful to see the figure come together! Andy

    enamel paint and thinner

Has anyone tried non-toxic thinners with Humbrols? If so, what happens with those? Just curious, because I'm trying to cut down on the poisons I ingest for the hobby! :p ;) Andy

    Vallejo Acrylics

Did you wash the figure first? Resin figures are covered in chemicals to help release from the mold. Those have to be removed with a bit of a scrub. Use some dishwashing detergent/liquid and water. I scrub a bit with an old toothbrush. A primer will help, but paint on a dry clean surface...
