Hi Ron

thanks for dropping back in.

No stained glass in window 2, unless you want to add another few months on to the project lol??

Had to have a break it was becoming all consuming and taking over my dining room table lol

Yes I am still here, slaving away and the beast continues to need feeding!!!

I have pretty much completed the rough stone on the outside of the far end. It was done as per the inside but then I used a steel brush attached to a dremel to give it a rough stone effect.

Prior to roughing it up I filled all the mortar lines with fine polyfilla and washed all the excess off. Once finished and dry I then used a dremel to open up some of the mortar joints etc that were not deep enough.

I have still some tidying up to do and of course there is the prime and paint in the long run, but for now it's another step closer to finishing the church.

I can embark on the outside of the side wall now, before screwing it together and finishing any joints with polyfilla.

The window is not fixed as it will be removed once all the messy work is done for the stained glass window:-

Carl and Steve

thanks for your comments. It's a bit of a pain in the ass due to the fact it's a simple case of measure the blocks, cut, stick and repeat but once you get in to actually adding the mortar and shaping the detail of the stone, it is actually very enjoyable.

I will finish off the far end wall today/ Sunday after I have done a bit of planning on some finer detail etc.

Cheers
Dave

we can belive it's a real one with the day light and the foliage background!!

There is no bigger compliment than that so thank you very much for your words of encouragement.

I try to achieve realism in my work and I want the end result and photographs to reflect this.

Cheers
Dave

Hi

I have now added all the filla for the internal mortar lines and also finished off the broken stone down the sides with a mixture of cork and polyfilla.

Next was on to adding "solidity" to the window so i removed the two dividers and simply slipped some cork to the back plate of the window and slipped back in.

I'm happy with the way this has come together now with it looking like a solid, damaged structure.

There are other little details to add here and there, and it will of course look much better primed to mask the white of the filla.

Now on to the second wall:-

Hi

I have now added the cork stone work to the long exterior wall after screwing together the two together (also added a good line of wood glue)

The interior has had more detail added aswell as the completion of the mortar lines which is done using the method previously described.

I wanted to add some distress to the structure to the area's that are closest to the blown out stone work, so I added some large cracks that follow the lines of the mortar and also some finer cracks that run through the middle of some blocks.

I have got to fill the exterior with polyfilla and also roughen the stone, before continuing to add stone detail to the corners and lower part.

Once this is don I will concentrate on the windows and think about adding some nice moulds to the upper internal corner.

Can't wait to get stuck in to some painting!!!

Carl, Ron & Carl

Thank you very much for taking the time to drop in and add these words of encouragement.

The devil is in the detail and I love this intricate time consuming bit! making the church can be a bit of a ball ache but once I can add cracks, damage, mouldings etc i can really get lost for hours just tinkering.

I'm also now thinking about the extrerior and adding ivy or virginia creeper to give more interest and break up the plain exterior wall, the mind just runs away.

I sat the Tiger in the church, on the base last night and got a great feeling for composition. I am currently now choosing my figures which will be made up of around 5, 2 of which will be higher ranking officers at ground level.

Months of work left yet though and I am starting to think very carefully on the stained glass windowo_O

Any suggestions that will help to bring it alive as I go along is very much appreciated.

I would like to enter this in to the Euro's next year if it's good enough.

Cheers
Dave

The stress cracks look right on the money and the overall appearance looks dialed in. It's all coming together well, very well actually. I'm likin it Dave, likin it real good.(y)(y)

Cheers, Ski.

Hi All

A bit more of the church done.

I have added the dividers for the first window and created the mortar lines as it would have been done.

I also added a semi circular stone work to the corner to give it a much more solid feel and it also helps break up the mortar lines.

Still need to add the filla to the outside wall and roughen the stone, but quite close now to finishing the main structure.
