Steve's right about having a free hand with the colour choices with the cobbled equipment. My thought was the challenge would be in making the beaten down look come off convincingly.

Hi Taff, I wondered what it was around his waist also. Never really got any answer on that. The only thing I can surmise is that because it is set in such cold weather the hussar has aqquired an extra bit of clothing from somewhere and wrapped it around himself. The maker is Stormtroopers. Not sure if they are still going but maybe they can give another answer if they are still out there. Luckily I still have one of their kits still boxed (The highwayman) and the website shown on the box is www.stormtroopers.co.uk Address is shown as 4 Collinson Court, Church Street, Cheshire, WA6 6PN. Hope this is some use to you mate.
 
With somebody elses paint it's always best to strip it off I think you don't know what horrors are underneath that may cause problems later
