Impressive, there is good depth in the fur. During my stints as a gaming mini painter a lot of those people would undercoat everything in black, not gonna work on larger pieces apart from as you say the fur. I like it.

Cheers Simon

Looks Good Mike, you have good volume in the fur without it looking dead and heavy. This is going to be a great looking piece when you are through.

Quick update: I started the collars yesterday. I have quite a ways to go yet but wanted to illustrated the effect I’m going towards.

Thanks for looking:

Ok Nap,

This a really complicated question. I’ll follow Cartachi’s model on painting the lace. The lower part of each section will be darker. The upper portion will be lighter. I’ll use black and Dark Prussian Blue to outline each piece of lace. Then just start it. Lower left side first, then lower left and same for the top. The lace on the dolman with be painted over a couple of days, so I’ll use two mixes of paint that are close to each other in the same range. Totally randomized. I’ll actually use a touch of gold metallic on the lace at strategic point to give the illusion of gold thread.

Here’s a picture of the Vallejo Colors I’ll use to paint gold lace.

Going to add this to the "Naps painting Ref" thread

Damn you NMM guys like making things difficult for yourselves! ;)

Yes, we make it harder than it needs to be!

Ok, I’m done with the braid on the chest of Dolman for now. I’ll make touch up’s in a day or after letting the colors settle in.

It’s time to move on to the arm and get it painted. I’m trying to decide if I want to put it on the permanent base now or wait until the arm is done, just prior to painting his Pelisse.

Thanks for looking!

That is looking good, you're really bringing the character to life and the NMM is great. Personally I'd leave the base till last, just me but I know I'd drip paint and stuff on it even if it's masked.

Cheers Simon

Hi Mike

Lacework looks good , no doubt it will change slightly as the main uniform colour appears

I personally base all my busts up which allows me to hold for painting ( ..can be a little awkward on larger scales ) and cover base with low tac tape over a piece of kitchen paper

Look forward to seeing more

Have FUN @ the bench
