Update: I’m pretty well done with the Blues on the Dolman. I’ll most likely paint the lace on the sleeve and the cuff.

Then off to the Pelisse.

Thanks for looking.

Hi Mike

That's a nice version of the blue ...are you using Reaper ( Ashen Blue ) or Vallejo ?

Like the way this is going

Have FUN @ the bench

Nap
Hi Nap,

It‘s Vallejo, although I do own Reaper paints. The Blue started out as a base of Dark Prussian Blue + Blue Violet + Black. Highlights were Sunny Skin Tone. That mixture of color worked fine for the smaller areas on the collar and chest but did not work well for the larger body. I had to change course.

So I played with color mixing until I found something more like the swatch I posted earlier in the thread. I worked with Oxford Blue + Blue Gray + Black. Shadows ended up being Purple and Dark Prussian blue. No black, it was just too stark. The highlights were Blue Gray, Sunny Skin tone and a touch of Ivory.

Happy Friday! More NMM for the lace on the sleeve. I got a solid start on the lace. Long ways to go yet. I’ll be working on finishing the sleeve of the Dolman this evening and and hopefully get a a solid start on the Pelisse this weekend if everything goes to plan.

Thanks for looking!

Nice work Mike, that NMM is really taking shape, I have gone the other way from doing only NMM in oils on flats and acrylic on gaming mini's I have returned to metallic paints which I find are hard going.

Cheers Simon

Hi Simon,

I’m torn on NMM. I usually paint military miniatures and pre 20th century for that matter, so I’ll use NMM techniques for lace and the like.

I still use metals for things like buttons, cap devices and swords etc.

In essence I use different tools for different jobs.

Hi Mike

Very productive sessions on the lace , certainly looking good

Look forward to the " tightening "

The cords and flounders look good as well

Have FUN @ the bench

Nap.

Thanks Nap. I’ll be well on my way into the Pelisse this weekend.

Yeah right tool for the job, I found that on anything bigger than a 30mm mini I couldn't do it justice unless it was with oils on flats done right though I still think it's the best approach.

Ok, on to the pelisse, the fur is blocked in.

I’m trying to build up a warm white. The base started out as Flat Dark Earth, black, Khaki and Deck Tan. I’ll spend the next few days painting more white than I’ve ever painted before. I’m in the very early stages and have applied only the 1st of many successive layers to achieve white.

I’ve used this mix successfully on 54MM and 75MM’s. I’m not at all sure how it work on such a large scale.

Thanks for looking.

Love the way you've handled the blues, very subtle contrast.
The detailing is the lace is excellent.
Good start on the pelisse.

I think the system you used on this pelisse works well with the scale. Having been a 30mm gaming minis painter I'm learning from threads such as this that what works in 30mm really doesn't work the same in larger scales, thank you for the lesson. Just don't want to be tempted away from what I'm doing now, but temptation keeps beckoning.

Cheers Simon
