Yup it's back to stamp collecting:( What is in the water in Spain, cuz the Spaniards are clearly not human when it comes to painting

This is beautifully done, but in common with a lot of recent output from the Continent I think it's overshaded. The photo here is quite dark; I'd love to see another photo where it's lit more neutrally, to check if the shadows are as dark as they appear to be.

Einion,
what do you mean ??? This is a matter of taste. I've seen overhighlighted figures at Euro. they get the prices.
At the other hand alot of figures are overshaded. But they also get prices.
So, why is this from Diego overshaded. I don't see it, i don't get it.
If you please explain what is "over" and when it is enough i can follow you.

It is always an issue at our club: when is it enough, when it is to much.
Answer: What you like...

So, this statement followed, i think you don't like the way Diego painted it.

correct me if i'm wrong.

Hoping to see it at Herzog von Bayern next month, although I suspect if it's there I'll need a stick to beat my way to the front.
It looks SO good, particularly keen to se the detail on the fabric. Can't imagine the patience required to do this level of detailed repeating patterns.

Just when you think you made a baby step forward with your painting, here comes "HIM", with this GIANT LEAP :(

His humbleness and good nature makes Diego even GREATER then he already is!!!

Ray ;)

This mans got so much talent, I have had the pleasure of judging his work at euro and its simply stunning, his style is amazing. Hardy

Hence why I said, I think it's overshaded ;)

The main problem for me is the contrast doesn't look appropriate to the scale - for as long as I've been in the hobby the advice handed down to learners is not to paint larger scales in exactly the same way as small-scale figures. Nothing has changed on that front; this is maybe 1/9 scale, but from the pic it looks to be painted with as much contrast as you might see on a 1/32 figure. I think this is partly the photo - being lit strongly from one direction and a bit dark it's probably a lot blacker in the shadows than in reality.

Yes, often they do these days. Like most trends things should slowly shift away from this over the years (to what I can't guess).

Oke, then i didn't read it good, but i asked when is it overshaded or over highlighted. I really wanted to know that.
Isn't that a matter of personal taste??

I hope its not ending in black and white. I saw some coolminers face's.

So i think we have the same idea's about it, but the look to the painted bust that Diego did is different. Two people, two different opinions..

I've seen this in real at Lugdunum show last week.

One of my favorite figure from the show for sure.
