If the organisers pull the plug that might not be such a bad thing, I think then a group of people could pick it up and run with it. the only thing is the name would have to change as the company owns the rights to the show name. I'm sure they would sell it to you at a very inflated price.

As Ian says above, maybe losing the name Euro Militaire might not be such a bad thing. Lets think big, start again and call it "World Wide Militaire" ! !

Malc it's that comment, At the moment its more important for us to support the show and hope the organisers do the same. I think we all know the answer to that the organisers will not listen. have they answered any questions asked by people yet? the short answer is not to my knowledge.

If traders want to be continually be ripped off to feed the cash cow that Euro has become then so be it but in doing so change will not happen. I think that next year will be a very testing time indeed. as you have the World Expo ( the Olympic Games of our hobby if you like). then you have the Madrid show which is doing well then after Euro you have Eindhoven ( the new kid on the block) people can't do them all and so then where does Euro fit in? If Eindhoven is the event I thinks it's going to be this year then that will be it people are going to go try that out at the expense of Euro. if all the comments come back raving about it. then i'm afraid that will sway the people that are sat on the fence to take a punt on Eindhoven rather than Euro. yes you will still have the die hard group going to Euro but that will not be enough.

Still what do I know, I have herd other traders complaining about the show but very few will say it in a public arena. but I say if a big enough shout goes out to the organisers then I'm sure they will have to respond at some point.

Well we will be doing Eindhoven next year and I for one look forward to the new adventure.

Cheers

Hi Guys,

Mick is right get the heart back into the show and it will be fine , my opinion is that it should move from the Leas but stay in the South

Nap

I'm sorry to disagree you with about this Kev, but why should the south keep this show? Look how successful Krufts is at the NEC, and Birmingham host the most successful German Xmas market outside of Germany. They have to get their produce here so why can't model traders. You have to speculate to accumulate, and I think Euro Militaire in Felixstowe is on its last legs. Every year I see the same thing on PF following this show, disappointment. It is heartbreaking really, seeing how happy and expectant everyone is before they go only to hear the same old thing afterwards. Its time for a change and I really hope there is someone with the skill and knowledge out there able to do the job. I would really love to see modellers come away from this show with happy faces instead of feeling ripped off.

360+ posts nearly 16000 views and not so much as a peep from the organisers.
You'd have thought that simple courtesy would have prompted them to post an acknowledgement that they were aware of the comments and discontent from the 'customers' and that they would respond fully in due course.
Sometimes silence speaks volumes. If nothing else they should be supporting those volunteers like Malc who although perfectly aware of all the failures is focusing on the positive side and pressing for greater commitment from the organisers.

Doubt they are aware of Planet Figure Del.
Robin Buckland on Mil Mod isn't giving much away other than the show stays at Folkestone and they have ideas.

I'm pretty sure they are well aware of it Nige, just choose not to enter the discussion.
It would be great if they were having 'big' ideas, but when Robin Buckland states that they will now look to providing volunteers with a refreshment you've got to worry that what is common practice elsewhere they regard as an innovation.
Unless they start publishing, not ideas but intentions pretty soon then others like me will be commiting to other options.

I dont think Folkestone is the best place for the show. Id say it'd be far better in towns closer to the main intl airports (Slough, Windsor, Bishop Stortford, Harlow, Redhill, etc.). I understand that some modellers/traders drive from the continent and it's convenient for them, but most international visitors will just catch a plane, and for what I know, it takes longer and costs more to get from Gatwick to Folkestone that from Spain to Gatwick.

If organised by a company it is understandable they want to make a profit, but they are competing with many other shows organised by modelling clubs where they just need to cover costs, which obviosly isnt gonna be good in the long term, specially when you dont offer anything special that other shows dont do.

I can talk about the one I know best; Madrid:
Free entry to the show
2€ per competition entry up to 10 (Online pre-registration available)
60 per table for traders (this year there were 47)
Pre-arranged deals with local hotels with prices ranging from 40 to 60
Easy and cheap connection from the airport or Madrid main train station.

This year there were well over 1000 entries in the competition and thousands of visitors.

Im sure other shows in mainland Europe are pretty similar. They might not be attracting many international modelers yet, but they are good enough for the nationals and prevent these from traveling all the way to Folkestone.

Like in any other business, when you dont go forward, you are actually going backwards. I think this is the case of Euromilitaire.

Hi Guys I have now just had an email from the Railway show organiser. and it makes very interesting reading. here is the figures I have been given:

Hire of the leas £6,800 for 3 days all food and drink has to be paid extra ( If you want the bar and food on) they get a discount on this. Tables are extra to hire from the leas but are given a big discount.it's £9.00 to hire a table

All traders pay is £11.00 per foot of frontage that's £66 for a six foot table.

Traders are given a food voucher off £4.50 per day for the 3 days

The council do the free advertising in the shepway area about the show. if they are asked to by the organisers.

They said that the trade more than covers the hire of the hall and other bits. the show has been going 30 years and still is running at a profit which the organisers use to improve the show year in and out.

so the facts are their that's the same price for everyone who runs a 3 day event at the leas.

I hope this helps people understand a little better just how much the organisers make from Euro. I would like to thank Chris Dorrell, Folkstone MRC Exhibition Manager for his help with my enquiry. and to mick for putting me on to him.

cheers guys

I think Javi reiterates what I have been saying. Also kudos to Ellie (Ian) for his untiring work in discovering the information.

Totally agree with you John ..the organisors are raking the money in and what a difference between the 2 shows ..amazing ..I can see a lot of traders being really miffed now .

As for my comment ref Folkstone ...a little eager if this is what's happening ...the people the show is meant to be held for ie the modellers and traders are in a no win situation .

Really do think someone needs to get round the table about ths ...and I don't mean one that cost £320 !

And on and on it goes.Give it a rest boys.Basically, not enough people turned up this year compared to last year, why as according.Same hotels ,same venue, same crappy competition tables ,same prices. It wasn't because it was the the 30th anniversary,as far as i'm concerned. If i was a newbie to this hobby and read all the negative remarks that's been said about Euro,i certainly wouldn't be going.
I'd like to start something a bit new about all these wonderous shows that are about, around the globe, and lets all put our heads together and start slagging them off one by one! Let's all start nitpicking these shows that seem to be sooo good and if we get enough negativity, maybe, just maybe,we'll start to get a level playing field. You're bringing on the demise of Euro.
Let's start with why last years was so good, compared to this years.Reason 1 The people didn't turn up.I'll let you chaps add your reasons.

Apparently this is the organisers response

Brian, Euro Has been in decline for years as you well know last year was the 30th and in some way people felt nostalgic and came. this year saw a very dramatic fall not a little bit a big bit. complaining is something that follows when something goes wrong and is seen as a way to may be but things on a better footing.

I have been fortunate enough to do shows around the world in my time in the hobby both as a hobbyist and Trader and can say in all honesty the shows on the continent have been much better and offer so much more to both the Hobbyist and trader alike.

Do you honestly think that Traders do the show to lose money, and love throwing money at it just to have a fun weekend. ( which you could do as a punter) no it's a business and like any business you have to make a profit to survive. when the facts are presented that the show has been way too expensive all round, then some one has to take a stand and ask why. the show needs to be upgraded to get the people to come back the answers is yes.

what happens next year? you have some major events going on in the hobby and the rise of Eindhoven, that show is getting more coverage on social media than Euro did this year, what then? does it get put down to another Blip and say it will be OK the following year? I think not.

Giving it a rest is just what the organisers want, then it goes away for another year. I have shown that the show is too expensive for what you get, and that if you don't adapt then it will die. I will now as you say Brian, give it a rest.

I agree ian.

To see those costs was a joke and thanks for taking the time to find out.

The passion for the show is very strong but not from the organisers at this point. I doubt they will enter this discussion but as i told robin buckland...if you think mil mod is driving prople to this show ...think again !!! Armour modellers did not attend.

I am going to mail robin those costs and see what comes back.

I will be there next year ...i just hope everybody else comes too

Stuart

Cheers Stu, I hope Robin gets back in touch with you. I too love the show but a line has to be drawn somewhere and if this helps then that can't be a bad thing. If Robin needs more then I'm sure I can get it from Chris no problem he was willing to help with any info needed.

It's just seems very funny that M.M. has not answered any of the questions that have come up. he must have seen the posts on FB, on his site and may be on here, who knows.

I know in my last post I said I would let it rest but felt this needed an answer.

cheers
