French Line Infantry Tambour Major 1870

I started this figure to try out some different techniques and putty, I am happy with how using plasticard to form the opening and bottom seam of the tunic went. Not so happy with trying to use Kneadatite Brown Stuff to make clothing, it is too stiff, even when mixed with Magicsculpt for my liking.

Anyway, another mannequin figure made from whittled down Historex parts and a resin NCO Historex head, I used a ready made kepi kindly supplied by RJ and a Historex sword from the spares box. The mace and shoulder boards are also Historex but I sculpted the Fringes of the eppulets along with all the other uniform detail. As is my usual way I made the insignia from post it note paper massaged into place with a wet brush and PVA glue.

All paints are acrylic mostly SC75, Vellajo and Dark Star metallics.

I am in awe of anyone who can do what you do, i.e. creating your very own personal minis. Unfortunately I'm still lightyears away...

Many thanks Karl, I have found that blogging the builds etc on here has helped me quite a lot, actually having to think about what I'm doing and why rather than just cracking on with it. I started serious figure modelling in the mid eighties, branched off to other things from time to time, I started trying conversions almost straight away. It's only the past seven or eight years I have been achieving reasonable results that I'm happy with, then I see RJ and others creating things I could only dream of achieving so this spurs me on to try and improve. I have learnt though not to take it all too seriously, that only ends up spoiling the fun, having fun and enjoying it is what it's all about. That and occupying the time I have being effectively forced into retirement and I love seeing what other people do and getting a feel for how happy it makes them. I just love the hobby.

Cheers Kev, funnily enough I am not a Francophile, mostly it must be said because of the rugby, I need to.keep a sense of healthy rivalry. That said I just love the uniforms of this time period, it doesn't seem to make much sense, but then again I rarely ever make much sense anyway. I shall review what I have for the comps and put something in for now.
