Tony, I've flipped your photos the right way round for you.

As the other guys have said it's now just a matter of practice to hone your skills and improve with each piece you paint. What you have there is a bust that asks you to tackle 4 relatively difficult colours - red, yellow, white and the "tartan chequer" thing, and it looks to me like the basics are pretty much there. Good job!

Nice one Tony. As others have said, tone down the whites and it will improve the 'realism' no end. Skin tones look fine, and loads of people struggle with red anyway.
Overall - a good job mate.(y)

Sound advice there from Mr. Pew!

A good tip when painting whites is not to actually use white except for the highest of highlights. Depending on the tone you're aiming for, start with something like a pale buff, deck tan or whatever, and then work up to ivory or similar before finishing off with the white "highs".

Same applies when painting blacks - except then it's the other way round, i.e. only use black for the deepest shadows, and work down to that through shades of grey (possibly with a hint of blue or brown or green, depending on the overall tone you're after).

Cheers Guys
I really appreciate all the advise and help i am getting from you all.
I seem to have caught the "armless" bug from you nap as i am just about to start an andrea miniatures french hussar officer bust.
Not to upset the full figure guys either i am at the moment painting a 7thbis hussar in egypt vignette;) but have stopped the work on this at the moment until i have got some better brushes. hopefully these will be here soon as i can tell the difference from the cheap ones that i have been using at the moment.
