Tony, before I start painting I decide where I want the light source to be coming from in my head and then just plough on, in this case top right.

Served on a radar picket ship (converted from DE) as First Lieutentant (job, not rank for you army types) during the '50s. Had a crew swap which resulted in few qualified watch standers. Thus learned to pipe the daily routine so that I'd have a tidy watch. As a result, the crew referred to me as 'Bosun Al' (among other things). Must admit that I'm rather fond of the name.
