Hi

A complete change of direction after the ECW diorama - a Landsknecht bust which I sculpted a couple of weeks ago.

p.s. - as a bit of fun I am also working on another project, not figure related so I will not post a blog, but it is different!

Hi Peter

This is definately a different piece , all credit on the sculpting , if I might suggest you look at the underside , looks to be a bit of excess resin on the higher edges

Good start on the fleshwork ....looking forward to seeing more

Nice side project with the Cutty Sark ......does the bottle come with it ?

Have fun @ the bench and in the dry dock

This is very cool! I've got a yearning to paint up a landsknecht at some point so I'll be following with interest. It's a really nice sculpt, I love the folds in the clothing.

The photo is of a casting, and that is the remnants of a casting plug which is easily sanded smooth. i am painting the original sculpting. The reason I could not load a photo of the rew sculpting is that I had started to paint it before I decided to post this blog.

the Airfix kit does come with a glass bottle - a real one, not one with a false bottom like the one in a similar Revel kit. The ship is built in the traditional way, where the masts are folded down to get through the neck of the bottle, then raised when inside the bottle. The kit even comes with plasticine to make the sea, a nice touvh is that it includes two full sets of masts and spars.

The story so far ...

the sleeves are painted - normally military figures have uniforms or at least a reasonable limited colour scheme so having a virtually blank canvass is very unusual. Choosing the colours was a challenge we military figure painters do not usually have.

Next will be the main leather coat..

Hi Peter

Your cracking on with this and as you said he’s a colourful fellow

The contrast with what will be leather will be good , if I might suggest , looks like there’s some red on the shirt

Looking forward to seeing more on this

Have fun

Very bright and yes it makes a change but there is still a harmony with the colours you have chosen. I think I'd be tempted to make everything clash and be proud of it!!

Cheers Simon

Nap - yes there is a little red that will need to be covered, some of the yellow needs to be a deeper yellow as well. I'll probably get those when I do my final touching up.

I will paint the leather in oils which will take a few days to dry, that give me a few days not working on, or even seeing the bust so that when the oil has dried I will see the bust with a fresh pair of eyes and pick up these little issues.

Simon - clashing colours is good. I looked as some of the re-enactment websites and my colours might be classed as subdued!

I didn't realise they had re-enactors for these guys, will have to look that up.

Cheers Simon

There are re-enactors for almost every period. About 10 years ago I attended the military Odyssey event in Kent and was surprised at the range or re-enactors and living history groups. Right from Ancients to modern - even pirates!

I must visit it again.
