Excellent work mate! The weathering on the Huey is top notch! Would love to see some close ups! I think the blood added to windsheild is a neat idea, maybe make it a tad duller, it looks like the chopper been there a while and the blood looks rather fresh.

Keep up the great work!

Hello guys,
I found these old magazines...

More pictures of the vignette. I'm not entirely satisfied with some details, but endless retouchs and too much time with the same subject really bores me. Maybe an 'impressionist' style..., but at the moment this is the best I can do. I don't use any kind of (magnifying) lens, so some details, like the eyes of the figure, are just sketched out.

What I was trying to achieve is a look of extreme weathering. Not sure about the result, but I hope you will like the overall work.

I have used no drybrushing at all, only thin washes. For the lights on the figure, I've mixed a bit of ice yellow with the base color, no matter if green, black or flash, doing the last light with a very thinned coat of pure yellow.

All the pictures are handled with my laptop, which screen has a different chromatic effect from my desktop. Not sure if they are too bright or too dark.

The Huey.

A close up of the marine, from unretouched (only resized) pictures of my camera.

Another close up, modified with the Autolevels option of the Photoshop. This is the reason because I don't use such feature, which sometimes literally burns the pictures.

(y) (y) (y). I like it! A fine job on all fronts Luca. I really like the various backgrounds for your photos as well.

Great Job Luca, very nice, love the ground work and the figure on a subject you don't see a lot of.

Amazing job, Luca (y) Question: how did you paint the greens on the Marine's uniform, particularly on the flak vest? My apologies if you've already addressed this question.

Carissimi, grazie a tutti per i complimenti.

Pete, the green is a mix of olive grey and pastel green, with some luftwaffe green camouflage used as wash. More black/brown washes on the bottom and sand/ice yellow for the lights.

The jacket is a mix of sand/buff/ice yellow. To achieve the weathering effect, I've brushed some horizontal thin lines with various tones of the above colors, simulating the folds, especially on the back and on the upper. The jacket too has been washed with chocolate brown.

All mixes contains also a bit of yellow green, especially on the jacket. All the colors from Vallejo.

Believe it or not, the figure has been painted only using two very old brushes from Pelikan (!), a #0 and a #1, found on a drawer at my mom's house...

Baci.

Bravissimo Luca! Normally, I don't like Vietnam subjects, but you did a wonderful job. The figure really looks like he's been in a war. Beautiful groundwork as well.

Francesca

Luca,
Thank you very much for your answers. Recently, I've been trying to figure out new ways of painting green and I was really impressed with yours. Good job!
