Your be in your element with all those medals, and I look forward to seeing more updates on this.
Looks like the sash will be fun to paint too.

Hi everyone

Little update ...sash worked on a bit more ......using the boxart etc pics I painted the uniform very dark blue ....

Couple of quick pics

Whilst chatting to Pierre about the medals ...I mentioned this ........YES you know what’s coming ........the uniform should be very dark green......

Yesterday was spent sorting that out .......happy now and thanks to Pierre for his words of wisdom...

quote”The Russian green went through different variations of dark green, depending on the tsar's taste, as they tended to involve themselves with military details.

But is was always very dark green, sometimes almost black and going by different names such as ocean green, tsarist green etc, which are of course meaningless!

Our friend Skobelev would to well in a very cold dark rifle green. I can only give you a recipe for oils, which in Skobelev's case was a base of Mussini's Cadmium Green mixed with Old Holland Sepia, highlights sparingly applied wet on wet with Mussini Flesh “unquote

, no idea why the boxart’s so blue looking .....silly me I should have known the colour ....I used Pierre’s oil colours finding the acrylic version ....will post pics later !

Here’s a actual Russian uniform , earlier in date than this one but shows the green , almost black !

Today is now medals day ........

Have fun @ the Bench

Good start Kev, at least the blue will add to the saturation of the green above it, it definitely needs warmer highlights if you ask me, sash looks good.

Cheers Simon

Hi Simon

Yes the blue helped and was a good base colour ! , probably not the best of pics but will look at the highs before the medals

.....might look different with everything painted ....at about 50 meters away ...lol

I’m happy with the sash

Thanks for looking in

Glad you found the issue with the uniform colour! Maybe push the highs a nit on the upper part of the uniform where the light is stronger?

Thank you for the comment ...that’s the plan !

Some work on the highlights and just a few medals to paint and there you are!

cheers,

Pierre

Yes “nearly there ....lol ........and the epaulettes / strap fit the head prior to confirming the hairy bits

Thanks for looking in

Hi everyone

Quick verbal update ....4 ribbons done yesterday ........7 to go !

......coming along well ....awkward getting the 4th in okay due to the cross sitting over most of ribbon !

Also pushed the highs a little more on the uniform colour .......happy with that now

Here’s a close up of Pierre’s version ......definately sitting in front of me while I paint !

A chest full of colourful medal ribbons, whats not to like. Like the deep green, agree a few select highlights but not too crazy :) as if you would.
Coming on a treat

Looking back at the references, they liked stripy ribbons didn't they. Yours are looking great.
Melanie
The habit of combining the colours of two different order sashes into one medal ribbon makes it challenging at times indeed, but that's the fun of it!

Only six more to go Kevin!

Pierre

Looks good Kev, I reckon you're right on the tunic, as a dark green the highlights would be very slight, I think it balances as it is. Ribbons, eppulets etc are nice too.

Cheers Simon

I was far too knackered to paint last night, can't wait for the school year to start, get my time back and let the little madam expend her abundance of energy there.

Cheers Simon
