For me this is a real departure from the norm, he stands taller than most things I do and he's only half a figure. That said I love this period of British Military and yes colonial history and if ever there was a piece of militaria I would like it would be one of these patrol jackets.

I have painted busts before, however I have never finished one, I even sculpted a bust of Spike from Buffy the Vampire Hunter a long while ago.

Just primed with car primer after a really good wash, no clean up I could see, this morning he has been undercoated white. I'll give him 24hrs to dry and start hopefully tomorrow. Just can't get over how much there is to paint.

Great bust to start on. Not much detail but a lot of surface for blending and glazing.
I am really looking forward to seeing how you get on with him. Have you decided the painting style you want to achieve?

Cheers Rob, yes lots of blending and glazing as for style, just my usual approach and hope for the best to be honest. I do want to try and incorporate some subtle colour so I'll have to see how that goes.

This is my favourite part, seeing the busts come to life

I shall try my best to bring him to life but painting on this scale is a bit of a learning curve for me. Love the texture on the jacket and small details like the stitching on the haversack strap.
