Hi Malc

Glad your surviving Grandad duty ..never a chore... I'm sure your in top secret negotiations with a certain white bearded fellow

Figures really coming along well , the red blanket is certainly a feature against the blue

I must compliment you on the fleshwork as well...good shout on the eyebrows

Looking forward to seeing more

Have FUN @ the bench

This morning I've concentrated on the pistol pouch, painting the hands and fitting the figures right arm.
For the pistol pouch I used Scale 75 black leather as the base coat, then I applied a little Orange leather to give the impression of a little wear and tear.
I didn't want to overdo it as he is an officer.
To the Orange leather I added a little Oroko for the final highlight, Flat Black was added to the base coat to she shadow areas.
The pistol butt was given a coat of a reddish-brown mix, and a light gold for the frame and guard.
I painted the hands using the Vallejo flesh set, I've really like this particular set, good flesh tones.
The arm was cemented in place, and a little Magic-Sculpt used to fill slight gap and produce the seam where the sleeve is stitched in place.
I may need to add a little more to give more detail to the seem.

Overall, I'm enjoying working on this as much as I did, the sacking of Panama.

Today I've been working on the haversack and canteen.
I've tried to give the haversack the appearance of a grubby linen, although trying to keep it on the subtle side.
The canteen is made with concentric rings to provide additional strength and then covered in a cloth.
I need to do more work on the canteen itself to produce a more brownish tone.

Following this I cemented the figures left arm in place, filled the tiny gap with magic-sculpt, and then added some base colour.
The next stage will be to add further detail to the shirt and blanket roll, before moving on to the trousers and finally the sword.

Brilliant work Malc, the haversack looks suitably disreputable and the canteen is great, must be hard on the eyes with those rings though, still it looks really good so far.

Cheers Simon

Hi Malc

Great to see this being updated and it’s coming along good, like the red sash as a focal point, personally not keen on the red blanket but its certainly well painted ...will it be plain or have a pattern

Liking the canteen and haversack , careful detail painting

Nice to see the other arm on

Thanks for sharing

Looking forward to seeing more

Happy benchtime and seasons greetings

Hi Nap

The red blanket roll was part and parcel of the uniform making them very distinctive.
Had it been a lower rank, I could've added a patch, but being an officer I felt it should be in a reasonable condition.
There's a lot of detail in the figure making it a joy to paint.

Fingers crossed I can spend a little while at the bench tomorrow, before SWMBO sets me a few chores.

Thanks for clarifying that, happy to learn something , it certainly does make them very distinctive , as you say there’s lots of details on this and your doing credit with the artwork
