Hi changed my mind about my original groundwork so I have crafted a new one today
Household filler used to create ground, holes drilled for figure pins
some small stones and earth pigment dusts added to the still wet filler
got a bit carried away and forgot to take anymore pics by this point, sand/rock dust added to base also some dead foliage and dried grass
all these show test fit using figure for reference he is far from finished yet, I decided to go with a burnt scrub land look, Napoleonic battles were very dirty places to be the Peninsular's dry climate would be ideal for wild fires from stray cannon shots etc so the dead tree was given suitable ash and smoke residue as was ground there is some hope though a small sapling growing near a bolder and some moss which isn't completed yet
I find very interesting that workground you're preparing...Sadly that burned soil is a very common image every summer (due to wild fires) here in the Iberina peninsula..

It was created using Vallejo Pumice Paste which was applied to the rock surface.
Then painted using various shades of green also around the top edge various small washes were applied to the bare rock in order to simulate new moss growth

The leather Haversack was then washed with Thinned Smokey Ink, Second Light was applied using Vallejo Red Leather, cracking was then applied using Panzer Aces Flesh Base, Then washed again with Thinned Smokey Ink, More cracking was applied using Vallejo German Orange, another Thinned Smokey Ink wash was applied, Final cracking was applied using more Panzer Aces Flesh Base and Game Colour Charred Brown.
