I also reworked the shako top as in the original example reference pictures

Also built up the beard underneath so it sits better onto the uniform

Now I am basecoating this and another Pilipili bust before finished off my Lt Bromhead bust

For anyone interested in the uniforms of the Franco-Prussian War, I have this book recommendation, which was published by "Verlag Militaria" only last month:

Frnco-Prussian War.jpg

It comes in two volumes in a slipcase and has 800 pages in total, more than 2,500 colour and black-and-white photographs. The authors have managed to trace an incredble wealth of original uniforms and equipmernt from both sides and the
Volume 1 deals with the German armies, volume 2 with the French. Here are two sample pages:

This is the link to the book's English version on the publishers' website: Franco-Prussian War 1870/71. Uniforms and Equipment of the German and French Armies.
It's also available in German and French.

Cheers

Hi folks

A couple of pictures of the pieces based up and with basecoats on , added a button inbetween the chain on the crossbelt and of course you can see the 2 medals I also added , pleased with the way they came out , should paint up nicely

Thanks for looking in

Hi folks

Bit of a verbal update here

Uniform blue all finished as is the band on the shako

Next will be the red and then the facing color on collar

Need to confirm the shako piping ...yellow or blue ....

In the original shako in pictures the sides look a faded yellow with the top being a blue ? ....... need to get that book !

Will do pics when shako is done

Hi Kevin,

I have the Historex model of the Chasseur d'Afrique in my vast Grey Army, so your drawing and photos are great references once I get around to it.

Hi Kevin,

I was going to use the saddle that comes in the kit. However, if you have them handy that would be very useful.

Chris
