This is looking great, Dave. The cold is coming through very nicely and realistic, beauty!

Dave, a fluke mistake actually worked out ok for me, so call it a good accident. Check out The Dew Effect on this thread for future ref in case you may want to play with it at a later time.

Ok say base is complete after a dusting of Vallejo white thinned down to about 70-30 and sprayed from c6 inches across.

Took a quick shot outside

Base coat for the bike is down……it’s a mix of Dark yellow, buff and tan yellow from Vallejo. Most of it will be covered as I’m going for the broad Brown and Green colour camouflage.

I’m going to put a wooden slat deck in the sidecar, heavily weathered.

Shot a dark aluminium followed by a lighter coat of aluminium for the metal parts.

This all needs to dry for a few days before any further work but it’s been very productive.

Thanks
Dave

Really good constrast on the base. The weathered ground work looks very realistic. Fine job on the base coat.

Thank you Steve

I test shot the Dark Yellow from the Vallejo panzer range and it’s a strange light shade of green. All the bikes I’ve looked at with three colour camo have the tan underneath with either squiggly lines or broad ones. So I added buff and tan yellow to take the green down and I think it’s worked out about right. I’m going to spray light areas of weathering on the underneath and inside of the frames etc prior to any further camo coats, followed by an all over weather once the paint is on.

Ill weather the engine separately, before fitting it in and then blend it all in to the areas that get the most dirt. Quite a longe job with many stages, but if I don’t do it like this there will be weird and clean areas where I can’t reach once all fitted.

I prefer the broader camo lines for this theatre as it blends in better imo to my groundwork.

Phew…..Im really loving this build and feel I’ve broken the back of it now.

Thanks
Dave

Ground work is fantastic, love the frosty look you gave it with the airbrush. With the the bike there is lots of it but not much solid surface apart from the side car, really loving this thread.

Cheers Simon

Thanks for your support and comments Simon

That base is a work of art in itself!

Thank you very much. I always strive for realism if I can I’m pleased with how this one turned out.

Hi Dave

Sorry catching up with this .....excellent build details on the groundwork and a even better result ...

.......am I glad I don’t do groundwork !...lol

Now we are treated to the beginnings of the bike ...bring it on

Appreciate your time in sharing all the work and thinking behind the build

Looking forward to seeing more

Happy benchtime

Ok so the paint for the base coat was bone dry by midday so I hit the camo.

First was the red/brown taken from Vallejo’s panzer range

IMG_1110.jpeg

I let that dry for about 20 mins and hit it with the refractive green, also from the Vallejo Panzer range.

IMG_1111.jpeg

Next I removed all cast lines from the tyres and wore them down to make it look like they had some use, I did this with a high grit dremel drum.

IMG_1112.jpeg

Then, finally after carefully gluing the wheels and adding the tyres, the main body and frame is complete for camo. I shot a burnt umber/black/tan earth mix on all the underneath of the frame, mud guards and tank etc.

So the next stage is to weather the engine. Then I’ll give the whole bike a shot of varnish , before fixing together and getting the detail weathering done.

Thanks
Dave

Bloody amazing, seeing it in your hand really brings home the sheers size of the kit. The weathering is going to be fun.

Cheers Simon

Loving the custom base and the groundwork. The bike looks amazing in situ, looking forward to the weathering.

Engine is now in and set, base weathering is done…..list of jobs left to finish the bike:-

Fit exhaust system (I’m currently painting with some corrosion)
Fit sidecar seats
Fit wooden floor for the sidecar
Add some mud and splatter
Weather tyres
Fit all rubber tubing for brake fluid, oil lines etc.
Varnish
Fit decals
Final washes

Its a massive job making and painting this, I kind of underestimated the amount of planning that goes in to the painting, but it’s almost done and then I can do the favourite part, which is the three figures.

Wow, can't wait for the figures

Thank you and neither can I :)

Really nice, with the figures it will be superb. An awful lot of work to display three figures but well worth it.

Cheers Simon

Thanks Simon, the figures will bring it together, I’m looking forward to getting the bike out of the way now tbh!
