I put the decals on today, added more frozen mud to the lower frame and spent an absolute age routing all the cables and pipe work through the frame. I’m going to Matt varnish tomorrow to protect all the paint work.

Oh Wow, the groundwork makes a superb setting for bike and crew.
You've done a tremendous job of the bike and sidecar, looks great even before the final detailing and weathering.

Malc

Right……..Apart from the Matt varnish and pin washes for the bolts, hinges etc, I’m calling the bike ready for the figures. The varnish is very important as the hard resin of the figures can easily scratch the bare paint, so two good coats is in order.

This has been a massive challenge, with the planning and execution of building and then painting in stages. It took me a good 2 hours yesterday to route the tubing and finish the pipe work for the engine.

I will fix the sidecar in with 3 ton epoxy once I have it varnished.

Decals are on and tubes are waiting for the rider to put on to connect to the handlebars. I’ll paint the rider first so I can get the whole thing connected up and solid at the front end. Figures will also be weathered to fit in to the cold, mucky atmosphere.

This is just awesome.
I have one and I was planning on sculpting my own figures for it, so this is inspiring. Not sure about sculpting the figures though now, Jeff's are so good,in spite of his strange way of jointing the parts.

Jeff’s sculpts are excellent, you just need a bit of patience with the rescuplting the joints and finding the pin holes etc. There were also some casting slips and resin blobs but a no11 blade cured that!

Test fitted the figures:-

JUST noticed I need to paint the fuel tank knee guards rubber black

This is looking amazing, an incredibly impressive piece.

One thing you might want to consider (if it's not too late) is to weather the tyres and the wheels/spokes a bit more. IMO they look rather clean given the conditions..... But maybe that's still on the "to do" list?

That scenery of yours really does look bloody cold, and I love your progresss so far. Really looking forward to the three gentlemen on the bike.

And, as I'm always good for a niggle... Said gentlemen are members of the Waffen-SS, but the registration plates on your BMW say "WH" for the army branch of the Wehrmacht. So, these thugs nicked the bike ?

Cheers
Karl

love this one ;)

The bike is now done;-

Added a wash and more mud to all the wheels/tyres
Corrected all 3 number plates
Painted the gas tank knee guards rubber black
2 good Coates of Matt varnish
Sidecar glued in to place
Corrected some small paint repairs
All figures test fitted

So I’m going to take a little break before starting on the first figure

I’ll probably do an acrylic base and paint with oils, just going to research the colours first. I’ll black prime apart from the face first, then shoot base colours for the rest with an AB. Lid cover will be autumn oak leaf camouflage.

Thanks
Dave

Actually having looked back again at this there is a detail that may not be apparent in the pictures. I can't see any tyre tracks through the landscape, even this cold there would be a track, especially with three burly fellas on the combination. If it's there and I missed it apologies.

Cheers Simon

I did not do the track tyres because it’s meant to be rock hard ground melted then frozen snow, I could add with the spare tyre but I’ll think about it, the model lifts off so it’s still doable, just the two small areas at the two rear tyres……..it’s such a small bit, I’m not overly fussed but will consider.
