Channel More 4 ran three brilliant programs last night , the first at 8pm Fact or Fiction looked at the true Richard 3rd , dispelling much of the myth created by William Shakespeare who wrote and twisted history mainly to please the Tudor monarch at the time Elizabeth 1st . Richard wasn't a hunchback although he did suffer from a curvature of the spine and in general was a damn good king . The third program The Princes In the Tower looked at who was most likely to have killed the two princes . Although Richard seems the most likely suspect Henry Tudor had as much to gain from the princes death as Richard . Henry had set in motion secret negotiations with Queen Elizabeth (Edward the 4th widow) to marry her eldest daughter to secure his place on the throne . As Edward had already entered into a marriage contract with someone before marrying Elizabeth all his children from the marriage were declared illegitimate and as Henry Tudor was going to overrule this decision once he was king, he would have needed the two princes out of the way to stop their claim to the throne . The program showed evidence that Edward was actually a bastard sired by an English archer and should never have been king , He was over 6ft. tall, broad built and blond whereas his father and brothers were all medium built and dark . But by far the best program was the last one about Perkin Warbeck a man of 26 years who claimed to be the young Prince Richard and had convinced many people that he was actually the prince including the King of France , the King of Scotland the Emperore of Austria and members of King Edwards own family including his sister . Of course they hung him.
If they get repeated try and catch them they turn history on its head.
But things don't seem to have changed much with royals for ever jumping in and out of beds never knowing who that fuzzy headed little bundle belongs to and hiding away the bad un's
