I have this piece in my grey army for some time now, so I thought it was about time I got around to painting it. I'm using a mix of acrylics and oils.

This is certainly a nice piece, but every now and then you get a piece that just doesn't go to plan.
I really struggled with the deep navy colour, it just didn't look right when I added subtle highlights, no matter how much I tried to improve it,
It simply didn't look any better. :(. So the sensible thing to do was to put it aside and start on something else.
( That I'll post up a little later... as it's something very different.:wideyed:)
So after my hols, I decided to get on with it, but thought I'd attack it with oils.
I thinned the base colour down and then re worked the highlights.
Thankfully it worked, and just needs a little bit of tidying up before I continue with the flag.

Looks great. Love the blue! What do you use for the gold buttons and lace on the epaulets?

Hi, thanks for the interest.
The epaulettes were painted with Scale75 arcylics, colour Iroko.
For the buttons and fittings I've used Darkstar Renaissance Gold (Acrylic)
Its the first time I've used this particular shade for buttons, etc., which I think has worked out ok.

Very nice work so far Malc it’s coming along very well indeed. Love the blue it’s worked out quite well indeed. Now the flag will be a challenge. Looking forward to seeing what you do with it.

cheers Steve.
The flag is certainly a challenge as its not an easy piece to hold when painting, and as mentioned above, I'm trying something new.
Once he's complete, I have a rather nice set of pirates to paint. :D

Thanks Mario, I'm taking time with the flag, and trying something I've not tried before, so fingers crossed it works.

good luck with it Malc, and that is like it must be hé,do something you never
have done before :)

Hi Malc yes the pirates, they are egaly awaiting your brushes. Now they are a totally different kind of challenge for you. I’m sure you will enjoy them as much as this figure.

He too was sculpted by Eduard Delgado, he will be pleased to know his works are still pleasing modellers.

Great job so far, and I've gotta ask: HOW did you do the stars on the flag?!? I can't imagine! ;)

Face is coming together! Keep updates coming.

Steve yours is your next step by step thread, right? ( I beat Nap in making the suggestion to post) :D
