Loving this project, I'm annoyed I didn't start following earlier! If you don't mind me asking, when you say you 'burnished' a part, what do you mean? The metal work looks absolutely fantastic.

Also, is this the sort of paste you mean: https://priorypolishes.co.uk/product/liberon-iron-paste/

Hi Stefan

My apologies for the late reply, I've just got back from a German Christmas Market. :D

That looks like the right thing, although mine comes in a tube. It was originally called Zebrite, but now just Black Grate polish.
The term burnish is a kind of polishing, a smooth metal tool is lightly rubbed over the surface to five it a high polished finish.
Applying the paste, and buffing up after a few minutes leaves a very realistic finish.
In a future post I'll do an SBS for you, I should be able to do that tomorrow.

This is the tube of graphite paste I have. I've had it several years, it is old school, but it does the job perfectly.

This is the result on a piece of resin. Not a bad finish, at all.

Thanks Malc, that's very cool. How hard-wearing is the finish? Can you shade with oils over the top?

Hi Stefan
The finish is hard wearing as far as I can tell.
The helmet of the Hospitaller has been stippled with oils after using the paste.

Hi Malc

Thanks for the SBS on the helmet ...I do hope you get up 5 hrs before you go to bed and do the stove and grate ...after licking the front steps clean....lol

The paste certainly works well

I picked up some stovax, weirdly it doesn’t seem to want to stick to the resin, I’ll have to try other finishes.

Found these on a google

Out of interest .....my grandmother did use it ...a lot

Hi Stefan
Personally I think it works better on metal, but don't give up on the resin, a friend of mine used to get good results on the old airfix figures.
When I tried the resin the other day I just added a dollop of the paste with a cotton bud and let it dry out before buffing up.

Lucky me, we don't have a fireplace in the house, so that's one job I don't have to do. :D

Ahh, the obvious solution - I was doing it wrong.
