Great stuff Paul - glad to see you kicking off the new year in good style and starting this one. The Grenadiers look excellent so far, with so much character and individuality in the poses and faces.
What I love about you beginning this is I know that you have both the skill and dedication to pull it off and put in so much quality modelling time that we will all get to see the splendid results in the future.
Cheers
Mat
Ps - the dragoon is rather nice too - just did that in some spare moments heh? I don't know, how do you do it!?!

Feck Paul you are insane  it has taken me 7 months to convert and paint three MM figures and that has been testing , your project here could take ten years  Good luck (y)

Thanks Ron.

To be fair to us both Ron, the difference between our
approach is obvious.
I have started with no. 1 and am working through to Number 50 and am not changing the sequence along the way.
and I am going to build all the grenadiers, then build the gun team then build/ convert all the horses, then build the berline, then build the rwd lancer then all the wounded falling figures then the other foot figures.
then I'll paint each group as they are complete.
I can approach each group of figures like wargamers do.
11 red plumes, 11 bearskins and so on.
thanks for your positive wishes

Paul

Thats a massive undertaking, Paul! Do you want to borrow my paint roller and blue emulsion.....?!!(y)

That may be a good tactic Steve ! ;)

Mat you are very kind I welcome your support.
the dragoon sapper is a sort of cheat. The horsw and saddlery was from a cuirassier that had an accident. I binned the figure and kept the horse and repainted it pretty quickly to freshen it up. The figure was tacked together from Historex spare parts.
body head and legs first. Arms were Airfix lifegard on the ledt and ECW Airfix Pikeman for rhe right.
I began the conversion with a skin of duro/ kneadatite over an existing bearskin from spare parts and simply textured it with scalpel point.
the beard was added to the chin then shaped up under the bearskin each side.
The moustache was blended into the beard, and then textured by scalpel edge from bottom to top.
the upper part of the left shoulder was cut away and glued on so that the forearm is in line with the horses mouth using superglue. The wedge shaped spae is then filled with a blob of putty and then rough shaped. Then sanded once dry.
The rolled apron was shaped in three sections.
A lump of pre- rolled putty was liad across the rider's lap and blendef under his waist belt. Then a lump placed on the sternum and rolled outwards and down to the waist belt and up toward the top of the lapels and trimmed at the sides so dome of the facings will show.
last of all thin strings of putty were laid over the shoulders draping down onto the lapels each side blended in and trimmed back for the epaulettes to fit on top.
The last job was to fit the pipe into his hand.
the plastic hand was moulded to hold a pikeshaft.
So taking the hot needle ( pyrogravure) I heated the crease at the back of the fingers across the inner palm and pressed against the outside.
then across the next set of knuckles, again on the inside and the hand closed enough to grip the pipe bowl.
if you look closely the outer knuckles cracked open and needs a smidge of putty when he is worked on at Sunday's show.
the reins will be fitted to the horse and the left fist and only glued to the left wrist after the rider is securely glued into his saddle seat.
His sabre will be painted off the figure and the swordslungs glued under the coat tails to secure.
job done.

Hope that helps
Paul.

Know where you are coming from Paul , I started this hobby as a wargamer , thats when I first met Julian Benassi but soon seen the error of my ways :)

Painting whole armies of nap stuff ' Hinchcliffe 25mm" and converting them , I had a regiment of line lancers each one converted into different poses ; some of their wargames stuff was really well done .

Love this!
It Will be a most impressive piece when you finished it!
It looks good so far, keep it up
Regards / Lars

I have had the painting hanging in my hallway for a good many years. It is a monumental project and my hat is off to you. I will follow your progress with great interest. Keep up the good work.

Morning Ron I painted a lot of what those guys called command pack so I still have some "offr std br and trprs' together on caster cup bases. Affordable as a kiddie for me and I can't get rid of 'em they remind me too much of were I started from.

Good times ;)
Cheers mate.

Hi Paul,
I remember a similar thing when I was around the same age, but it was a book called 'The Hundred Days', can't remember whom it was by. I would just study all the pictures including this one, would continually get it out on loan from the local library. I completely understand the passion and drive behind this project Paul, it's just bloody marvelous. Do me one favour though, you need to bend the Grenadier on the end further forward as he looks completely out on his feet and only just barely hanging on to his mate's shoulder. Love it, love it love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Regards
Chris.

Paul ,

That is a rather lot of legs ( gone all funny as I typed that word..LOL) ..a heck of a project ...hope to see this at Euro..2016 ..yes I said 2016 !

Well done on you're work so far it's going to look great when finished....now get painting!!

Following with interest

Nap ( no legs )

Well, Paul, you're certainly off and running, and it's looking good ;) Such an atmospheric painting, just one of the pictures that hooked me on Waterloo in "Cassell's Illustrated History of England" on my parents' bookshelves. I was told some years back that the grey, bare-headed chap in the centre of the front line bore a resemblance to me... not that I want to influence you in any way........ Really looking forward to your WIP's on this(y)

Alan
