Hi Paul
I am going to follow this with interest,I don't convert or paint Historex anymore but I did back in 1984,it's also how I got into painting with oils, however I still have my Historex catalogue from 1984 and I thought I'd add a few photos from it,it was a piece by the great French modeler J.C.Leger,he did some marvellous creations with Historex and this piece I've added happened to be one of my favourites and a great inspiration to me,hope you don't mind me adding them, this piece was also based on the Imperial guard retreat at Waterloo.

Well, Paul, you're certainly off and running, and it's looking good ;) Such an atmospheric painting, ....edit
....I was told some years back that the grey, bare-headed chap in the centre of the front line bore a resemblance to me... not that I want to influence you in any way........ Really looking forward to your WIP's on this....Alan

I shall name him 'le veille du Pays de Galles' in honour of your damnedly fine whiskers and your help earlier this year when I was compiling the kits Alan. I am sorry to present him with green hair to start with, that could have put a chap off his chips !
Salut mon brave;)

Brian that is so good to see, thanks for posting mate.
You are spot on correct IMHO.
This is exactly the sort of stuff that got many of us hooked on poly cement. :D

Paul.

I'll have another look at him Chris.

Thanks, I do value all contributions and am open to all suggestions and any positive critique

Paul.
Hi Paul,
It's only an observation, please don't take my suggestion any other way.

To me it's one of the main parts of the painting. The way he's slumped and limp, looking completely gutted in his body amongst the mayhem unfolding.
Regards
Chris.

Chris you are spot on in pointing this out and thank you.
I had meant only to tack things together at this stage to see the relationship and spacing is correct. I got carried away with this guy and went too far without checking the angles of his body.
He needs altering at ankles waist and neck to get the inclination right and his legs need to be further apart.

I have started on the horses now, so that, again the relationships one to another are correct.
I shall be posting the work on the gun team and more at the weekend.
thanks for your help.

Paul.

Morning all,
I am working on this project all day today at the Bolton Show.

The aim today is to have all the horses done and 'ready for paint'.

I have pre-prepared the components by taking all the Historex horses I had in stock, plus a pcket of 5 horses avaialble seperatly and mark on the inside which horse leg appeas in the painting. Each left horse half is thickened by glueing on the plastic base supplied with the kit.
The excess is trimmed way and then files and sanding sticks bring the profile of the part back again.
Each half is then cut vertically and the four quartets of horse assembled to create the pose in the painting.
in addition to this a metal wire is inserted in the belly to suspend the horse above a working base.
any mismatch of profile will be smoothed with putty and sanded back.

Hollowing out the exposed hooves with a dremel and adding brass horseshoes is next.
finally adding the heads and ears will give me the primary poses.

There are 13 horses to rough out today so I am sorry but I can't reply to any comments until this evening.

Photos later in my next post.
my lift has just arrived.

Paul.

This will be absolutely epic!!!!!!! Following enthusiastically Colin

Thanks Colin, I was able to layout everything for the first time properly yeserday to see the spacial relationship between each component part works, and I am so pleased that all seems 'right' so fat
Cannon and limber are now built and all the horses are roughed out. The gun team really looks as if it's going along some.
I'll post some photos tonight.
Paul.

Colin this is awkward to say exactly because i haven't measured it to the centimetre.
Well I sort of have but, when you place everything, and then look at the painter's POV it looks too close together, even though it ain't.
Yesterday, I had the gun team , the grenadiers and all the horses set out on 2 pieces of A3 black mountboard set landscape side by side.
For the Berline and horse team at the back it's a strip about 1/2 that again all along the rear.
I hope that makes some kind of sense.

I'll measure that all properly later when I post some piccies.
Paul.
