Hi Paul,
I am very inspired by this project. At the rate I build/paint figures, this would be a 5 year project for me. But when I retire in four years, maybe I can devote more time to something so grand. I have always wanted to create the scene by Horace Vernet of Napoleon and Marshals Berthier and Murat before the troops at Jena. (I have all the figures in a box waiting for the day I feel crazy enough to start the project). I am really enjoying reading your threads on this monumental project and I wish you the best of everything. Keep at it, and every two or three months over the next decade I will do my best to give you encouragement. I look forward to following your progress.
Pete

It would... If I knew how big A3 black mountboard is lol

I was working in axle widths! :)
A3 is 2x A4 side by side mate so overall base groundworl will be 615mm width 445mm depth.

So basically enormous then Paul !
Cheers Mat

One doesn't like to show off Mat, it's bad form, but thank you ;)

Well Paul, I'm very disappointed, I was thinking more along the lines A1 or A0, obviously you're getting nervous! More photo's coming Paul??

As I said to Mat. ..... Not nervous really mate I'm going to get stuck in with what I gotta work with !

Thank you so much Pete, your enthusiasm is infectious, and will spur me on. !
To encourage you also need to know that when 'the word got out' 9 months ago that I was planning to start this on January 1 this year,
I had a flurry of pm's from planeteers who offered help of all forms including offers of kits and scource materialm
That pushed me on and like you I took a while to compile everything first.
So now I can get on and build at my own pace.
If you read this thread from start to your post just look at the goodwill offered.
What a Fantastic crew we have here.
In an ideal world, we should all do at least one mega build in whatever form that takes.

Do have a go at your Jena project. I recommend you set a start date, which will allow you to clear your desk of other
Work in progress pieces, and anything that's not finished by your d day? Pack it away, it will be there at the end ready and waiting.

I have.

Cheers

Paul

I might be in Spain at the mo , but your still in England, Whats that in proper feet and inches(y) mick

Good morning. El Mick, I never turn the ruler to that side it's not accurate enough.

How big is a 54mm figure in inches ?

what's the conversion factor 25mm to the inch.

Works out about an acre I think, that's two furlongs and half a chain

by about a cable deep :D

Now you think Iv'e got an ology in pure mathematics. Lets just call it kin big.
Anyway what you douing up this early

Or ....................frame it and hang it on the Wall, perfect for when I lie on the couch, it will be the right way up !

P

Or hang it upside down from the ceiling to save turning your head when you lie on the couch. You could even have rails fitted in different places and move the diorama so wherever you lie or sit down you can see it. Ideally you could have rails linking places to prevent using too much energy.

That would make a fantastic model Pete - the pose of Napoleon and the movement in the horses in that painting are brilliant - and contrast nicely with the rigid Grenadiers at attention - would be something very special.

Paul - is the painting back up in the Walker Gallery now? Be good to see it in the flesh. (Thought next year you may consider recreating the Death of Nelson painting found on the wall behind!)

There are so many great paintings that would be spectacular to see as models - would make a great thread - but where would we stop?

Cheers
Mat

I'm sorry Bob but's that's really so unfair,
I am not even qualified to manage a five a side football team laundry operation.;):)

Paul
