Here's my start on a portrait of Humphrey Bogart in his iconic role as Charlie Alnutt in C.S. Forrester's "African Queen." A bit harder to get a likeness of one of the world's most famous movie stars than a Napoleonic general with one or two extant oil portraits. I am happy so far but it needs a lot more work.

Sculpey firm. 1/6 scale.

First some inspirational photos.

Here is a great book by Kate Hepburn that got me into this project.

And work so far. Lots of wrinkles and stubble to come.

Thanks Dan. I tried the cheekbones but they distorted the shape of his face vs some pix I am using. I agree on the cheeks. I think the brow us pretty much set as changing it would cause havoc. Appreciate the input :)

Great start Colin... You bit off a big chunk with this one, probably one of the most recognizable faces out there. I'm sure you're more than up to the task.

Missed you at the Fernando weekend... it was a blast!!!!

Version 1 head done and rejected. Some features are OK but they don't add up to Bogart. Back to the drawing board :)

needs fuller larger lips and more prominent chin, with a deeper crease. Also slimmer face among other things.

I will try to do some Photoshop magic this evening and get you a better comparative itinerary (if you still want delay painting it and look into those details).

That's a great face, full of character.

Perhaps it's just my eyes, but I think that the nose looks too sharp. The pictures and death mask show a more bulbous one.
Looking forward to seeing this progress.

nice subjet Colin, I bet he is going to improve on the second round!! I found some inspirational references, some life masks, hope it helps, all the best mate!

Thanks Antonio. I am not sure if that last one is motivating or intimidating. Funny how Bogie looked different in various roles. The face you posted is an excellent Rick Blaine but the ruffian face from African Queen looks very different, at least to my eye. Anyway I shall have another bash at it....don't expect miracles :)
