I think snik is going to enjoy his journey to Panama and enjoy the tots of rum he can have when he gets there

We might have to look into the meditation pirates that would be a very colourful area.

The big project well it under way but going to take some time to get it right but I’m sure you will enjoy the end result.

Happy Friday Family!! I am thinking of starting a bit defferently !
I will start working on the base so the viewers can find it more interesting!
They will see the progress of the figures from You MalcC and the progress of the base from me .
What do you think?

Hi Snik

Great idea, Looking forward to seeing you bring this Vignette to life.

Malc

Well me harties I can see Panama on the Horizon and and can’t wait to see prizes at the end of the voyage.

Sink, what a great idea running them both side by side will give a great all round view of the different styles of brush work love it.

Nap, the original idea was to set them in a tavern but decided to let the figures stand out by keeping it simple. But I’m sure some of our modelling friends out thier might just come up with the idea and do it. The next one will be set on board a ship and includes a cannon so that will give you something to think about.

By the way nap all the figures do come as busts wink, wink, they work very well as a set too.

All in all this has been a very enjoyable experience watching the vignette come to life through the hands of Malc. It just shows what can be done with this kit.

We will continue to watch this great thread and of course raise a tankard or three during the process.

Good health Me harties and a fair wind on to Panama.

For this post I thought I'd go into a little more detail how I go about painting.
As for the colour choice for Captain Morgan, I was a bit sneaky and based it on the label on a bottle Cat. M rum.:sneaky:.
This is something quite new for me, and it wouldn't surprise me if a lot of you have been doing this method for ages.
Anyway, I start by painting in the shadows. This is followed by building up washes of the base colour.

The next step is to apply the first highlight, I did this with a flat brush drawing it lightly over the surface so it catches the folds.
This leaves me a good guide on where to increase the depth of the shadows and strengthen the highlights, while tidying it up as I go.
Since I've been using this method, I've been quite pleased with the results.

I know have got to start planning on the colours to be used for the third pirate, while I continue with Captain Morgan.
So for a bit of inspiration I'll watch a couple of episodes of Black Sails.

As you've guessed its time for a little tipple. :D

Captain Morgan looks great! I start preparing the figures and the cast is so good!! The base will delay because I don't have the right wooden base! Try to find and order!
The leather of his cape looks great!! I like also the black leather! Is with oils too?

Hi Snik
As you say the casting is excellent, the fit of each piece, fits into position so easily.
Yes, the brown leather jacket and strap has been painted in oils which gives it a nice sheen.
I'm currently working on his cape and boots, which I hope to finish during the week, the its just the sword to go.
Then I can continue with pirate no.3.

I hope you find a suitable base soon, I'm eager to see how you bring Panama to life.

Malc

So happy you guys like the casting it does make a difference, this is the feed back we need . Just to know we are steering the ship in the ship in he right direction.

Yes Sink we hope you find the right base too, as Malc says cant wait to see how you bring Panama to life.

Hi Malc

You have been busy mate , Capt M is certainly looking rather ...well ...piraty ...not sure that's a word though ..lol

Good to share the painting techniques always welcome and interesting

Good to hear youveca good 'reference' to base the painting on

Looking forward to seeing more

Happy benchtime

Nap

PS As for Steve's "wink wink" comment .....I've sold Carole to stock up the GA so looking at other things .....lol .....the busts do look rather interesting

Following on from the last post, I added and painted the cape and painted the boots.
The cape was initially painted in acrylics, then I picked out some of the highlights in oils, using Paynes grey and Titanium white.
This gave me a nice smooth finish to the highlight, with a slight sheen.
For the boots they were given a base coat of Andrea Burnt Sienna, before going over in oils to give the boots a realistic appearance.
I painted the areas in shadow with Burnt Umber before applying Burnt Sienna to the rest of the boots, Using a flat brush the colours were
blended in, and any excess oils removed. For the highlights I used Rowney's Chrome Orange Deep, this brings out a nice tone.
Burnt Umber for the shadows. I'll leave it over night to settle and add any further detail when its dry.
Nearly there now, just the hand and sword to go.
