Malc, looking good, you’re moving right along. Funny how well sculpted and cast figures help with that process. Thanks for sharing.

I think I mentioned it before, they're so well detailed, they kind of paint themselves.
I'd intended to paint all three faces at the same time, but so engrossed in each figure, I couldn't stop.

Well Malc it’s really coming to life now. Love the colours they work so well together. As you say they do sort of paint themselves. As long as it’s giving you pleasure then that’s job done.

Yes, its coming together and I'm quite pleased how its turning out as I've been experimenting with some new techniques.
Hopefully next time I can take some better photo's as the highlights are coming out more prominent that they actually are.

Hi Malc here is a version of the Sacking of Panama sent to us by one of our customers. He posted it on our FB page so I thought you might like to see someone Elise’s interpretation of it. They changed the back drop and moved the figures around . It’s a very nice version thought people might like to see it.

Thanks for posting this Steve, Its nice to see someone else's version.
They've set the scene nicely.

I'm hoping to complete Captain Morgan in the morning and get some work done on pirate no.3

Malc

Hi Malc I just thought it would be good to show a different version of it. Looking forward to seeing the finished Captain Morgan. The third one is a different challenge. When it’s all done it’s going to look amazing. Keep going your on the home straight.

I was intending to complete Captain Morgan this morning, but things didn't quite go to plan, and I definitely not going going to rush it.
After using black primer to paint the sword, leaving the hand, I initially applied graphite to the blade and buffed it with a cotton bud.
Gold ink was used for the hilt and guard. I left this to dry for a few hours.
I wasn't happy with the look of the blade, so I've given it a coat of chrome.
From experience it takes a few days to dry, so I'll put is aside to dry. Later I'll tone it down with a wash of Sepia.
Pirate No.3 your up. :D

I've mentioned previously that I'm fortunate to see WW2 aircraft fly over and today yet another surprise.
This time a Spitfire, what a sight and the sound of the Merlin engine.
There is an air show on the coast over the weekend, and the aircraft are basing themselves at Southend airport, just a few miles down the road from here.
If I'm lucky I may see more fly over. I know the Red Arrows are taking part, but I think I've missed their arrival.

Malc, re the fly over, I was at the Stonedead Festival (for good old rock music) last year, it is organised by ex-forces people, they managed to book a fly over from the Lancaster. It passed really low overhead (between bands) 3 times. Also I have the misfortune to live near the Farnborough Airfield, they have stopped the airshows now, thankfully, but that was a crazy couple of weeks for aircraft fans.

Cheers Simon

Seeing a Lancaster flying low is really something. I can imagine the noise when the Farnborough air show used to take place.
Talking of Rock, do you listen to Sabaton?

Just a small update, as I've got Pirate no.3 underway.
The helmet was cemented in position and primed in black, followed by a couple of coats of DarkStar old silver letting it dry between each coat.
To make it look old and weathered I stippled on Sepia and Burnt umber, then blended and smoothed it in with a flat brush.
This leaves a nice dull appearance with a hint of the silver coming through.
I've got some of the main flesh tones down, but with some tidying up needed especially around the eyes.

yesterday I finally got around to watching a couple of episodes of Black Sails for some inspiration.
So much ground in dirt on grime on there clothing, something to think about, when the next pirate vignette is released.

Hi Malc, that new fella is nice, liking the helmet. I will Listen to Sabaton quite happily and would love to see them sometime. Personal taste leans more to the blues inspired rock but am happy to be entertained all day at a festival. Will be back at Newark again next weekend, Mason Hill dropped out but happily Florence Black stepped in to fill the gap. Great band from South Wales.

Hi Malc great start to pirate no3 like what you are doing with the helmet it’s looking very worn and like it’s been around the block a time or two.

The thing is with this kits you discover more and more interesting things that you don’t see until it’s under way as you say.the team keep looking at at and we find other parts that have so much detail going on. The second part will be something to see too. It’s a while away yet but we know your going to love it.

As to music it’s a mixed bag in the work shop anything from Led Zeppelin to Tom Jones. but would say prog rock from the 70s is big with all of us .
