In the end I opted for the jig, simply three cut down dress makers pins stuck in a tight triangle on an off cut of wood. A bit tedious forming each trefoil individually, twelve in all, on the plus side I only screwed one up. Then onto the punch and die for twelve, obviously made far more after they pinged off into the ether or hid on my cutting matt. Each square on the matt has a white dot in the centre, just about the same size as the buttons! Then using my trusty post it note paper I added the lace to his wrists. Just the rear of the dolman now, cap lines and sword, oh and bit and reigns for the horse, nearly there.

Thanks all for watching.

Nigel, David and Melanie, thanks for your kind words, the braiding was the first thing I fixed, now I'm just hoping nothing falls off. Nigel, I made the lance the same way as I did the lance for my 9th Lancer in Afghanistan, strongly I quite like making them, yeah I don't understand it either!

Hi Simon

Very effective jigging there young man , the trefoils look very good

Again the use of “post it’s” look good and nicely in scale

Looking forward to seeing the rear of the Dolman

Have fun @ the bench

Cheers Kev, there is a little bit missing from the trefoil, they have a extra small loop on the single loop, I don't have anything small enough to make that, will have to bodge it with Magicsculpt, don't tell anyone they won't miss the detail!

Cheers Simon

Malc, Neil, many thanks gents, the braiding is rather fiddly, more cleaning the excess superglue than anything but it's easier and more effective than the Magicsculpt alternative. Good call on the jig Neil, now all.i have to do is stop stabbing my thumb with it everything I move it! Hoping that the painting phase isn't too far away now, depends how much bench time I get, well that's stating the obvious I guess, I'll shut up now.

Cheers Simon

Melanie, Kev thank you very much, as I do all this on my phone the pictures aren't that large, though they did scare me last time I looked at them.on my laptop. No progress today, a little lady is ruling the roost just now.

Love it. And this is a study in patience as much as anything else. Fine work on the braid.

If the definition of patience is Pig headed stubbornness then yeah that's about right. Actually doing the braid with wire was easier and quicker than the Belgian Guide whose braid was done with Magicsculpt, it's a lot neater as well.

Yeah I had to read that twice before I realised what you meant! Though my figures are huge compared to yours, still it's what keeps us happy.

Indeed mate, mind you my break from figure painting while on my landscaping has been good.

I think that's why I enjoy the sculpting aspect as well, it's a break from painting all the time. Like your diorama it's also nice to know you've created a unique piece rather than painting someone's else's creation. Best steady on I'll get all philosophical and stuff!
