David, Malc, thank you gents, really keen to crack on but a certain little lady will be taking up most of my time today, only just recovered from last week when she was a little Helion.

Cheers Simon

Last night I applied a wash of Windsor & Newton Brown Pink over the whole horse, I kept the paint fairly thick or not highly dilute. Then left it for ten minutes or so before reworking the paint with a dry, soft flat brush removing much of the applied paint before leaving it to dry overnight. I will leaved it until Friday before doing anymore.

Melanie, Brad thank you both, the undrpainting in acrylics worked rather better than I'd hoped but I'm still going to go over it with oils to accentuate the shade and highlights. Just got to hope I don't screw it up in the process, oh bugger I've said it now!

Cheers Simon

It looks great so far. Shading isn't over-done, which is a common issue with horses.
Nice work.

The shading is just the underpainting showing through, it needs a lot of work and me re-learning my oil painting skills. I'll be taking it slow and steady, in fact trying to emulate your patience in this aspect, I want to get it right first time.

I have now started building up the shade and highlights on the horse, but try as I might I can't quite get the colour right for Kevs reference picture! Literally just used Mars Brown feathered fairly dry into the shade, added more light feathering with a dry flat brush where I wasn't quite neat enough. The highlights and dapples are Naples Yellow with just a touch of Brown Pink. I used Daveys Grey on the lips and chin and around the area between her legs and under the tail, this is a very translucent paint so once dry to touch I added a little Paynes Grey to it. The lower legs are simply Paynes Grey, then just a retouch of Brown Pink on the upper shoulders and flanks.

I have also started blocking in he colours for the rider and made a start on the face, all in acrylics.

Cheers Kev, I tried my best with the horse but my abilities go only so far. He won't take too long now I'm guessing and I have another project to go on the completed section when I get thd base and sort it out, this one hasn't appeared anywhere else. It'll be PF exclusive!
