I think, not very often but sometimes I do, anyway I think the Lancer is just about finished with the build phase. I have amended the rear of the dolman to come to a point. Added new edge lace and the seam lace down his back as well as the decoration at the base of the dolman.

I have yet to add the bit for the horse but that won't take long and I'll be ready to prime them both. Ooh exciting, yeah you can tell I don't get out often!

Cheers Simon

Right let's get cracking with the Second phase of this project.

I have primed with a rattle can of car primer and underpainted with acrylic paints. I'm going for a light bay, can't guarantee that's what it will end up as though! Using a flat brush I first gave her (didn't have any Historex male horse genitals so she's a mare) a few coats of Vallejo Brown Sand, the undersides were the lightened with this plus some SC75 Light Skin. The upper parts were then painted with SC75 Orange Leather. The mane, tail and lower portions of the legs got some Vallejo Dark Grey.

I'll now spend some time putting in basic shade to bring out the portions and muscle groups. Then it will be time for the oils to come out.

Not hanging about today, I have applied block shading using Vallejo Smoke, a very versatile colour. I'll leave her to dry thoroughly overnight now before I start on the oils, hoping the transparency will work to my advantage with the block shading and colour variation I have applied in acrylics. I'm thinking I'll be applying mostly Brown Pink as a base and both wet on wet blending and wet on dry painting to bring out the details. That's the plan at least.

I'm eager to follow this part of your build, too, Simon! I've only recently started applying techniques like this to my horses. I wanted to enhance the look beyond "toy soldier" style of a monochrome horse, to make it look like a more refined kind of toy.

Prost!

Cheers Brad, again I shall do my utmost, this is still fairly new to me given I have only painted one horse in the last maybe 20 plus years.

Cheers Simon
