Hi Martin

Waiting for these to be in place , unpainted they look large but painted they look great , look like they should be .

As you might have seen in my WIP mine are smaller but I'm happy with the way they will look !

Thanks for update

Look forward to next post ....possibly the arm ?

Happy benchtime

It continues with the first arm!

But before assembly and painting, the gods of the figure hobby first set the overcasting!

The sprue ...

... is not a problem, I'll tackle that with the "Proxxon" - and away it is...:

Far more annoying - because avoidable! - is the long ridge due to mold offset that adorns the outside of the arm ...:

Of course it has to go too!

PreviouslyI used to try to grind these things away - and that regularly went wrong, especially when the ridges, like here, meander through the folds.

This method is less bloody:

I scrape off the burr with the blade of a really sharp knife, with the blade tilted about 45 degrees against the direction of the scratch ...:

You can of course also use a scalpel - but the knife blade is wider and there is less risk of slipping.

I only use sandpaper for the final smoothing (with water!) of the treated areas! Another advantage of this method: there is less toxic resin dust.

The ridge has dissolved in pleasure, as we can see here ...:

After the obligatory washing (with dishwashing detergent), the arm is temporarily fixed on a cork ...

... and primed...:

Then the arm is mounted - as always with two-component glue. It fills the gap and ensures a really firm connection.

I advise against using a super glue!

These cyanoacrylate based adhesives have the highly undesirable property of "blooming" if too much is taken. That means: There are ugly white spots in the area around the splice.

This is not nice with a figure that is already partially painted. Not nice at all!

Anyway - the fit of the arm is very good, the constant dry fitting during the cleaning process was worth it!

I am particularly pleased that the additionally mounted medal, which protrudes a bit on the side, and the upper arm do not interfere with each other ...

So much for today.

Cheers

Good stuff! Those mould slippage scars are a real headache, and all too common. I guess manufacturers take the view that, if someone is keen enough to buy something complex, then they should have the skills necessary to tidy it up before painting it.

Hi Martin

Good preparation on the casting seams ...mine was the same and took a while to deal with but necessary as you said

As I say normally always amazed the way you paint separately and will no doubt achieve same colour in the painting

Very good placement with tbe additional medal , sitting well in position

Look forward to the next update

Happy benchtime
