Thanks very much folks for all the lovely comments - much appreciated. That was a *very* long project so thanks for indulging me. Although it took a while I learned a lot building that Carabinier, skills and experience that’ll improve - and hopefully speed up - future projects. It’ll be nice to now have something different on my bench too.

A hard fought battle with this fella but worth the end result, one thing I've found though, as you get absorbed in the next project any reservations about the last one melt away. OK so they get replaced by a new set but that's progress, apparently.

Superb piece though Paul.

Cheers Simon

Thanks Simon, I think that’s absolutely right. There were one or two tweaks I wanted to do on that Grenadier trumpeter that drove me mad at the time - once he was in the cabinet though the bother evaporated…done. Move on.

My Imperial Guard Artillery gunner has been back on active service the last couple of evenings and is making smooth and (comparatively) speedy progress - certainly compared to the Carabinier.

I also received through the post today an original Lucien Rousselot watercolour that I thought might be of interest. I found it quite by chance on a well known internet auction site and picked it up for an absolute snip. It was being sold by some sort of Americana retro shop in the states and I’m not sure the seller had even heard of Lucien Rousselot.

It’s quite small and has clearly been made as some sort of greetings card as there’s a nice inscription and a signature inside. Anyway, I’m delighted to have an original piece of Rousselot’s work and it’s on its way to the framer’s asap.

@admin - is this OK here or should I start a new thread as it’s a new project?

I'd say a good start but that would be coming far too late. I like how you have rebuilt the colback and fur trim on the pelisse. The print is charming, there is something very appealing about Rousselots paintings, simple yet full.of detail.

Cheers Simon

Thanks Simon. I don’t normally have more than one project on the go but I started the artillery figure as bit of respite from the endless turmoil of that Carabinier. I might start to cut myself a bit of slack re: projects on the go.

The Rousselot watercolour really is a bit of gem - whether you like uniforms or not he’s a wonderful draughtsman. I’d be very interested to know it’s history and how it wound up in a retro-Americana shop in the States.
