To be fair.....all the traders made a big effort to welcome people.....but you could see a lot of them were surprised by the lower numbers attending......quite a few mentioned the 'Good Old Days'
So maybe your right Ron T. Euro may well be in decline. Although, I for one am not a regular attendee, it would be tragic to think Euro was no longer there.
What did impress me, was the standard of pieces on the competition room. A great inspiration to raise ones game.
Only sad I could not enter due to attending only the Saturday. Maybe next year.

The standard of the comp is second to none thats for sure!! ,but if the traders don't turn a profit then all is lost .
The price of a table is around £25o .00 plus vat plus insurance , couple that with the price of getting there and you can see it takes a lot just to break even plus a weekend out of normal working .
Price of table at sword and Lance £35 .00 and a great show and the organisers not so Aloof

Well,I had another very good weekend meeting up with old friends and having meals and drinks on the Friday and Saturday, this was my 21st euro and IMO it's not the same as once was, perhaps you're right Ron it may be in decline, however it was a show record for the number of entries this year so that's good news.
It's always a worry because apart from the show itself I love the whole 3 days in Folkestone and being able to socialise and meet old friends and new ones,I would be very sad if there was no euro,it's the highlight if the year for me and I hope I attend many more.
The standard if entries was very high and I was overwhelmed by the number of busts in class 11,this class is definatly becoming more popular as is the fantasy classes, there was the usual rumblings and moaning about the judging but the show seemed to go very well.
There was some great releases on the trade stands with Stuart from Stormtroopers having some real beauties on his stand,I actually thought the BOS was a lovely piece of work, but being a napoleonic fan I suppose I would say that.
Only 3 gold medals were awarded in class 2 which I thought was a bit surprising,I could ramble on but don't wish to bore my fellow members.

Roll on next year,I don't know what the dates will be as I'd left by 3.45pm today,I presume it will be the 20th / 21st next year.

W(h)ither Euro? I know of two previously regular trade attenders who failed to attend for the first time in years. The reason simply being the cost of a table. Another (non-attending) trader told me he could attend a show in Holland for the same cost as attending Euro. The competitions were superb, but there was a noticeably smaller trade presence. Without the latter, the show will die.

Happy modelling,

Mike

I think, the whole arena, of modelling is under pressure,! whatever the genre, its more than likely due to the financial climate, over the last several years. I have read all of the above comments, and find that it is a 'Mirror Image',.. of what my, Father is saying about the, Model Railway fraternity! .. more so! as regards to the, Trade stands. the Costing. and Attendance numbers! .. as he was saying, his club is now also struggling to meet the costs of entering a layout, at any given show!

Hopefully things will change, and everything will gradually pick up again! we can but wait and see!

Regards,

Mark

I arrived early Friday morning, and I was suprised at how many parking spaces there were available.
I agree the numbers did look a bit down, but I still had a great time catching up with friend and making new ones.
Purchased the pieces I was after and still went home with a few quid in my pocket.:)

Sadly there won't be a Euro Special again this year, it will be a repeat of last year.
So yes, hound the the editor and magazine to re-instate it.
I assist the photographer over the weekend, and of course the number of models photographed is greatly reduced from when we were doing it for the special.
There were so many great models on display, which proves we need the special back.

Mark

As far as I'm aware Adrian Hopwood will write and article covering the show, and will be spread over two issues.
Not the same as the special, not Adrian's choice either, he would much prefer the return of the Special like many of us.

Hi Smudger

If my memory serves me right, I believe Charles Davies' son used to organise them, and of course Charles is sadly no longer with us.
I daresay someone could have taken this on, but you're probably right that cutbacks came into it somewhere.

Personally I miss all the re-enactors, the French artlillery on the Leas was always a pleasure to watch, in this case it was the locals who put a stop to them sounding off the cannon. Not to forget the Romans' they also put on a good display.

What a lot of pessimistic talk as usual.I hadn't been to Euro for a couple of years so I was pleasantly surprised, as I thought it was a brilliant show.Loved the whole weekend. All the traders you'ld ever want, fantastic figures in the competition and the camaraderie. What other show offers these 3 in equal quantities. All the top gun painters were there and all the new releases were there too.It seems to be annual event in criticing the show.I personnaly think it's still the best all round show there is.

I would like to thank everyone for their friendship and making the weekend for me a great experience.

One always spends far too much there Ron.
There was a time that you could not get near the traders stalls , I think it has had its day to be truthful ,some of the European shows are on the up and up
The European shows don't offer the whole package as they're short of traders.Check out how many new releases were brought out before Euro, this doesn't happen in the European shows which shows that the traders are still willing to useEuro as their launch site.I think it's in the British psyche to knock our own success.
