Hi Rich

I'm not so sure that's the case, I was one of the younger ones once.:D, but now one of the Old Guard, and there were plenty there that were a lot younger than me, so they must be filtering through. Sadly there weren't many there that were older.

How well was the competition for the junior section supported?

I went to the first Euro in the 80's and then for the next 6 years. I then stopped painting, moved to Somerset, started re-enacting, got back into painting 2 years ago. I have to admit, money is a factor, Grandchildren, wife and work but I am determined to get there next year.

Sorry mate,
Re-enactors are barred, they upset the residents with their musketry an make the place look untidy with your mouldy old tents and camp kettles.
You will have to come in disguise. It will me good to meet you.
I trust you enjoyed your walking
Mick

Jason Salkey, aka Sharpe’s Rifleman Harris, will present the Prizes at Euromilitaire 2016, on the Sunday

One blast from that musket and the Hall could slip into the British Channel :wideyed:

Pretty well, as in previous years, and better than about 15 years back when my son used to enter.
I was in my thirties when I re-entered the hobby, and there are many of that age now, and they would've been juniors at that time.
So I don't think there's a reason to worry, they'll always be modellers unless something drastic happens.
If there weren't any in their 20's or 30's then we would have to worry.

Good to know and hope for future - although I sound out as a pessimist at times I only wish well for the hobby, it's been a big part of life since the early 70's.

With regards to Einhoven, and where it wins hands down on most other shows, is that it is held in a large Conference Hotel, whereby everything is in house, with everyone mixing together for the 2 days.

The conference centre is hired at a good price as the hotel knows that everybody attending will be staying there. They therefore make their money on the rooms, food and drink that they provide.
As well as this, the organisers are exceptionally good and even organise a feast on the Saturday night for all those who want to attend. All in all it is a show for modellers, set up like the original Euro by modellers.
Euro organisers should look at the set up and consider the same. I spoke to Rob and Margot who organise the show last year and Euro is still considered the modelling event of England. They would travel further inland if required as would other European modellers to be able to attend.

As has also been mentioned, Folkestone ( Lees Cliff Hall ) has now out priced itself and the place and hotels are 'tired'

The Organisers should be able to negotiate with a conference centre near Ashford a good rate, which should lower costs considerably, allowing traders and entrants to pay a lot less to attend. Once this happens, I'm sure it would be great once more.

I really love Folkestone and Euro is Folkestone, but I have to agree Nick,I saw 2 or 3 places in the leas where the masonry was bad and crumbling and the place looks like it could do with a complete over haul, the hotels are good and bad,all people want is to sleep and drink in them so I think that trend will continue,I'd like to perhaps see it moved to somewhere like the saga, where Euro was held in 2000,it was a nice venue within parkland and a modernised building, people could still use Folkestone as a base as well,I just feel the leas has had its day

That's nice of you to insult the guest of honour. There's a chance I would be able to get a majority of the cast down to Euro in the future.
But I don't think I'll bother now.

Malc

Lol,

I just thought with Euro organisers watching their pennies that they just picked some random vagrant as the guest of honour!

Lots of all good points here

It would be good if the link to this thread could be sent to the organisors both MM and the actual company ...see what they come back with .

It would be as mentioned an idea for traders is Pegaso/SK etc to sit down with them as well and air their thoughts and concerns.

Euro as a show is still good but as Brian and Nick said the Leas itself is very tired and out priced themselves .

I personally would love to go to SMC and it's certainly something to think about for next year as well .

Nap

PS As for vagrants ..well I got in..lol
