Well I hope things settle down for you Malc, looking forward to catching up at Faversham.

Just got a bit of fettling to do, sand down the Magicsculpt knots on his thighs, some pyrogravure work on his plume and whatever else I spot.

Oh and shame on you Napoleonic buffs, nobody noticed the rank on his right cuff, I put it on the wrong way round, I only noticed when I went to do the left!

So hopefully I will be able to start painting by the end of he week.

Oh I forgot to add the picture, D'Ho!

Hi Simon

That’s a great update ....really nice work on the thighs ...his not yours...lol

As for the rank ...I noticed but was scared to say ......yep your right ......no backbone .......but still good looking

Look forward to the final fettling and seeing the reworked plumes

This is going to be a really nice figure , a lot of careful thought and modelling has gone into this ...

Look forward to more and the paint ....especially the lacework

Wish I could’ve got to Faversham ...you and Malc have a great catchup

Happy benchtime

Thanks Kev, I don't bite mate, if I cock up call me on it because I usually miss things, like the sleeve lace, I'd have got to the painting stage before I noticed that so again thanks. Got a lot of grandfathering to do this week and since I was supposed to be in Cyprus now, cancelled because of my hip, the wife and I are having a day at the coast on Friday. It may be some time before I paint!

Cheers Simon

Now he is really starting to look the part. Nice work, enjoy being a grandpa, and we are looking forward to paint.

Nigel, Kev, I managed to prime him today so hopefully I get some paint on this weekend. On Saturday I have a graduation to attend, not university event not even a school leaves thing, no it's for my Granddaughter leaving Pre School! Yeah I know crazy bur that's life these days.

Cheers Simon

A big thumbs up Simon, I can't sculpt for toffee. A fine job and looking good.

Cheers Bob, I have spent many years of practice from minor conversions to the odd fully scratch build, but my heads are awful so major conversions is my limit. To be honest I'm not sure which I like the most, sculpting or painting, guess it's down to if it's going well.or not!

Been an odd couple of days, nice pub lunch yesterday followed by a disturbing incident with my dog. I scratched a scab under my knee, given to.me by a cat running up my leg using her claws, unknown to me it bled a fair bit and I left little puddles of blood on the floor. My son noticed it, so after dinner I went to clean up only to find my dog had locked it all up! Should I be worried?

Today my Granddaughter had her graduation ceremony, complete with home made mortarboard hat, she is four and finishes pre-school this coming Tuesday, really strange.

Anyway enough of that, I have started painting my Tambour Major, he is broken into top half and legs so I can paint the backs of his legs and the inside of the habit turnbacks. So far his face is more or less done and I have made a start on his boots, breeches and gold lace.

I have also made some progress with my 2nd Empire Tambour Major and 2nd restoration cuirassier. Still trying out Magicsculpt and Brown Stuff mix for sculpting, at the moment I'm favouring 33% Magicsculpt to 67% Brown Stuff, I'll carry on.with the trial on this figure.

Hi Simon

Hope the cat wound has healed okay ...should you be worried about dog .......only if he starts to grow a “Briggsy Beard” ....lol

Bet the pub lunch was nice ..the small break will do you and the lovely lady good for sure

As for the update ....going to be a nice result ..good start on the main colours ......I had to check the lapels ....nearly put my foot in it about being white ...but he’s a Dutch Grenadier and the reference is there

Face looks good ....I’d give him a bit of rouge on the end of nose ...a wine drinker

Nice to see some work on the TM and the Cuirassier...coming along nicely

Happy benchtime

Malc and Kev, thank you you both for your faith in my abilities. It feels a bit awkward painting him in two halves but it won't be long before I join him up for good.

Cheers Simon

Many thanks Melanie, though I hope this figure doesn't h
Last that long I have others to do, I know what you meant though!

Really nice progress here. A very unusual subject and you're making a grand job .
Do you thin: dress parade, or a more dowdy, weathered finish?

I habitually present my figures clean and shiny, when I was making dioramas I would weather figures to suite but for a display piece I prefer not to. It may look out of context and a bit contrived but I am primarily painting for my own pleasure so I stick to what I like.

Looking very neat and not even done.
I am curious as what is that blue trim material is?
Hi Daniel, the blue is just post it note paper glued in place with PVA. Once the stuff is wet it is possible to slowly bend it around curves and such like. I can cut thin strips with a new sharp scalpel blade, not sure if it would cut fine enough for your scale but give it a go. I get consistent width long strips of lace that are a fair scale thickness.
