(It's a really nice project, mind you)

Cheers David, much appreciated and I did indulge in liquid lubricant, unfortunately it didn't help me sleep. Up early enough to almost qualify as yesterday still, pain decided it was wanting to play and sleep had no chance.

So yesterday I added his waist belt and started the buckle, made a start on the front ammo pouches. His tunic got the fly front just needs the back and collar doing, I added a little bulk to his shoulders to address the neck and square away his upper torso.

So that's yesterday taken care of. Today will.mostly be about rugby.

Cheers Simon

It looks great.
Sorry to hear you're struggling though.

Cheers David, couple of weeks ago now my hip went, it was only a matter of time with other injuries causing more wear and tear than is healthy. Just waiting to find out how long I'll have to wait to get it fixed.

So early morning modelling progress.

Finished the tunic, complete with buttons from a punch and die set, front ammo pouches sorted and rear one started. Also added buttons to the gaiters and extended the headgear at the back of his head.

Morning Simon, you have done wonders and brought this figure on beautifully. Considering the pain you are experiencing this adds a whole new perspective to the talents that you are exhibiting and through such adversity.
All the best
Melanie

Agreed. It's turning out really well.
And French army WW1 is one of the best modelling subjects.

Take it steady and good luck getting your hip sorted.

Cheers Melanie, actually getting absorbed in modelling and painting helps me focus and ignore the pain, till I move and then it bites. I'll try a different tack with cider and rugby today!

Many thanks David, not a history buff really but I thought this figure was pre WWI, if not no worries but I was planning on giving him a Chassepot Rifle. Now I'm confused but thats nothing new!

The hip will take as long as the NHS decide because I can't afford the £10K or so to do it privately!

Cheers Simon

looking really good Simon!
FWIW I use 0.2mm or 0.3mm solder for piping-it's less springy than fishing line or even normal wire.
enjoy the rugby
N

That sounds like a good idea, I didn't know solder came so thin, I shall have to look into that. I do at some point want to do some Hussar jackets again, that sounds perfect.

Cheers Simon

Very nice to see this progressing. Cool work Simon, and best of luck with that hip.

Adrian

Many thanks Adrian, this one seems to be coming together quite nicely for me, so far.

Might have to get creative and make my own new hip but I don't think Magicsculpt would do the job.

Cheers Simon

This is progressing very nicely, I love the way you handled the tunic. Excellent work.

Maybe add in some Green Stuff as well? And can you make me one as well while you are at it.....:D

Cheers Nigel, the tunic needs refining as I add shoulder straps etc and I wouldn't trust anything I make to bear weight.

Seriously don't leave the hip too long, I've lived with chronic pain for damn near 30 years now but the hip is a whole new dimension of pain.

Cheers Simon

This is looking superb Simon, your sculpting is very good and I hope your health is manageable.

Many thanks for that, I do my best sometimes better than others I need to work on a consistent level if I can. My advice regarding health, stay way from the Dr's Surgery you only ever come away with a longer list of ailments! Also if laughter isn't the best medicine then red wine probably is.

I suffer with bad mental health, so much so I’m having to call it a day on full time work at the ripe old age of 51………I leave my company of 16 years this year and it’s a step in to the unknown. However I try hard to enjoy the pockets of freedom, with modelling, laughing and yep…..drinking.

Stay happy if you can buddy

Dave

Dave, cheers for that. I last worked 10 years or so ago, mostly through mental health, at 59 I have now suffered physical poor health and chronic pain for 30 years, so I know where you are coming from.

It's a big step and takes some getting used to, you will need to occupy yourself because suddenly those 8 to 9 hours that were an ordinary working day becomes a very long time. This is one of the reasons I do so much modelling, that and its relaxing and enables me to drift away from the pain to a certain extent.

If you are able it helps to.maintain a good level.of physical fitness, it's another avenue to channel the negitive effects of poor mental into. It also helps to be open about it, it's quite surprising how many people are suffering and keeping it to themselves, which as been my route, remember you are not alone. We, as an on line community can be an effective mutual support network when necessary.

Take care and keep painting.
