David Jenkins was originally missed off the Roll but his Great Grandson recognised him in a sketch by Lady Butler some 130 yrs after the event. He appears in her picture and I understand the family still have the Bible that was given to all participants.
Mick
Sorry Mick - David Jenkins NO. But it was great to see him eventually recognised and restored to the roll.
Clue time....he was small in stature but ferocious in the fight, one of his initials was T, but, I'm not going to tell you if that T in first name of surname.
After all the good humoured banter about putting the dog in my diorama, I thought it was time for a little payback
Pip the Rorke's Drift terrier. Small in stature but ferocious in battle. The T was for terrier.
He is going to have the 5 button O.R. tunic on, the bayonet in the right paw and the broken assegai shaft in the left paw. He will have a cross belt and holster and is with the talented Dimitry - Gaudin at this present moment.
He was not actually an official army dog, but I thought he had earned the right to wear the tunic, as he was at the defence of the mission station. Here is how he looks so far.
cheers
Richie
