Seeing the 3D printing taking over from hand sculpting, I wonder if some day the 3D print will include color. Then the fun will really be gone.

I have a totally unused 3D printer, scared of the damn thing. Hoping though to be able to produce my own bits and bobs, simple stuff to start with but heads would be great, though a scanner would help as well but I'd be even more terrified of that

Really good job on the shades in the trousers Simon, I think getting them to look right is quite a goal.

Cheers W, I have settled on a fairly easy technique on blues like this, as described above. There will.be tweaks as the tunic and other bits are completed, trick is to have high and low lights in a colour that absorbs most of the light that shines on it. In reality there is very little of this to be seen in full size real garments made predominantly of wool.

It's already here, just too expensive, at the moment, but in a short time, maybe ... (the clip is in italian but the message is clear).

Yes but the pleasure is in the process, not the end result, so I don't think the hobby will die just yet

Yep, I agree, photography catches reality better than drawings and paintings, but thousands of painters still put their soul on paper and canvas ...
Nevertheless, the 3d colour print is little more than a raw material and I think it might be used in our hobby as any other technique.

You're right. It's already used in aeroplane modelling for instrument panels, safety harness and other details. But these are 'decals' and come on a backing sheet.

However the advent of 3D affects our hobby there are those who will embrace it and those who won't. Either way both side will enjoy what they do and how they do it and the hobby will evolve, so long as we each get what we want out of it, just bring it on.

Not managed much today, sitting at the bench has been rather painful, so for what it's worth I have painted his haversack and sash, hopefully tomorrow will be better.

Incudently the palm of his hand still needs a lot of work, lighter skin tone, so I need to start glazing some darker shades into it.

This is a really nice project and is progressing really well.
Sorry to hear you're struggling with the buggered joint, though.
I hope you get an appointment very soon.

Cheers, got an appointment next week for the surgeon to be able to tell my my hip is F'ed it then the wait for a slot on the operating table that's gonna take time. Still could be worse, they haven't told me to stop drinking so that's a positive!

"Cut out caffeine, alcohol and spicy food."
Those are the constants.
The reply is, "Yes." Regardless of intent

Hi Simon

Like all sorry to hear your struggling recently but hey on the positive side ...you can open a beer up ....lol

Small steps are good on the Figure , the haversack looks old , possibly a tad more highs on sash?

Take it easy and look forward to seeing more

David, Kev cheers, not going to live life like a monk but taking everything in moderation, especially moderation.

I want to get the bulk of the figure to the same level then go back over everything again adjusting blending, highs and lows and anything else I can get a brush on.

Cheers Simon

This is coming along beautifully, but I expect no less from you :) Always a pleasure to see your work.
You have my sympathies with respect to your pain.
All the best
Melanie

Ski, Melanie, many thanks for your support. Think I'd best start thinking about the base, or may be tomorrow.

Cheers Simon
